Didn't see a thread for this.
Just got my copy in the mail, was a blind buy. Watched the trailer, and it just dawned on me that RAD (1986) - one of my favs - seems to be a family-friendly BMX remake of Spetters??! Will give a full watch this week, but many of the scenes in the Spetters trailer are present in RAD (same camera angles, same terrain, same theme, etc), except with a much more family friendly BMX spin. SPETTERS RAD ..even the main song "thunder in your heart" from RAD seems to be a slower paced remake of the trailer music from Spetters? Maybe others have made this observation, but it was really suprising for me! The end result is two very different movies, but amazing how many scenes seem to be copy/pasted in structure and look. |

I'm waiting for mine to arrive. There's no one else like Paul Verhooven. Every film he made has been a trip. But I've never seen his 1970s Dutch / German films, except for Flesh + Blood (1985) which he shot in English. I wish he had directed a dozen more Starship Troopers space adventures.

Most blu ray discs look good with display aet to 2.2 gamma, but most kino discs and some arrow discs look better with display set to 2.4 gamma, likely because these discs were mastered with 2.4 display gamma target.

Releases of Verhoeven's Soldier of Orange and the wicked black comedy The Fourth Man (featuring Spetters' Renee Soutendijk as a luscious femme fatale, and who I was so psyched to read will be in the upcoming Suspiria remake) would be great.
Two of my favorite Verhoeven films, which I don't believe are available on Blu in any region. |

Came to this thread because I happened to see the French release of this movie in my deals bar at the top of the page. The cover of the French version
https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Spetters-Blu-ray/249633/ says "version intégrale noncensurée", meaning "complete, uncensored version." That sparked my interest, since I had no idea this movie had a censored version. So it makes me wonder what's on this Kino release -- censored or uncensored? I had seen this film years ago and it certainly didn't seem like anything was censored. |
