Amazon Amazon's "Event Horizon" (from Adam Wingard)

Quote:
Amazon and Paramount Television are developing a series adaptation of the 1997 sci-fi horror film “Event Horizon,” Variety has learned.

Adam Wingard is set to executive produce and direct the potential series. Wingard recently directed the film “Godzilla vs. Kong,” which is due out in theaters in March 2020. He has previously directed films like the recent “Blair Witch” reboot, “The Guest,” “You’re Next,” and the live-action version of “Death Note.” He also wrote and directed films like “Autoerotic” and “What Fun We Were Having.”

Wingard willl executive produce along with Larry Gordon, Lloyd Levin, and Jeremy Platt. Gordon and Levin both produced the film.

The film was directed by Paul W. S. Anderson and written by Philip Eisner. The titled referred to a spaceship that disappeared after testing an experimental gravity drive capable of creating an artificial black hole that was meant to allow the ship to travel to distant points in the galaxy. A rescue crew and the gravity drive’s inventor are sent to investigate after the ship mysteriously reappears, only to discover that the ship traveled to a hellish dimension outside of the known universe that infects the ship with a sinister sentience, leading to multiple deaths.

It starred Laurence Fishburne as the captain of the rescue ship with Sam Neill playing the inventor of the gravity drive.

It was also recently announced that Amazon had boarded the Simon Pegg-Nick Frost series “Truth Seekers,” a comedy-horror series about paranormal investigators. The streamer is also currently prepping the horror anthology series “THEM” from Lena Waithe.

Among the many shows currently produce by Paramount Television is the Amazon series “Jack Ryan” as well as the Netflix shows “13 Reasons Why” and “The Haunting.”

This sounds solid if they can agree to make it a 10 episode run, instead of 'ongoing'. There is a lot of back story in the film they can develop, and an actual follow-on from the end of the film is quite feasible, with
[Show spoiler]Captain Miller ending up virtually anywhere in the galaxy after the remains of the ship were pulled into the hole.

Fingers crossed this is excellent, eh?

Massive soft spot for the flick (4K please, Paramount) and I'm stoked at the possibility of just getting to see more of the vessel. Absolutely love the design of the 'Event Horizon'. Fingers crossed this happens and that it's half-decent.

With the shape the master is in, I'm not sure we'll ever see a 4K. Hell, I'd love an HD version of the missing Hell footage.

I loved Event Horizon first time I saw it. It stunned me from so many different angles: religion, SciFi, horror, past trauma, etc.

I will definitely watch the first few episodes to gauge my interest. Not sure from the description whether this will be a REMAKE of the movie or an EXTENSION to cover the before/after events of the movie.

Would like to see in-depth dig into the original Event Horizon spaceship gravity drive development, testing, mission planning, as well as the Event Horizon spaceship's first jump & what happened along with as an option, the events of the Event Horizon movie + fall out that should have occurred AFTER where the movie ended. Boy, that's confusing.

Quickly Summarizing, I'd like to see:
1. Gravity Drive technology discovery + testing & development
2. Event Horizon mission planning, build, and crew selection
3. Event Horizon mission - Earth to Jump
4. Event Horizon mission - Jump to Hell & chaos on Earth
5. Event Horizon mission - Rediscovery
6. New mission to rendezvous with EH (the movie part) < this does not need to be remade since the movie exists
7. Post failed mission fall-out (what happens after the movie ends)

I hope they don't try to milk it too much with 10 seasons . . .

Hopefully this will be connected to the film and it isn't a remake.

Wow! Just rewatched this movie in the past week or two. I am cautiously optimistic. I hope it dosent turn into a slog like the recent Night Flyers show.

Wish the unrated cut for the movie could be found on VHS to make some sort of 4K transfer sadly those sick scenes are long lost it see the Studios never cared for this epic underrated hated movie.

Either way Adam Wingard is right choice to make this show even though his worse works were Death Note and Blair Witch (well Blair Witch was semi- terrible IMO). Adam Wingard is great when he does Indie movies when he does Hollywood movies like most directors he has a hard time to do freely what he wants.

I trust Amazon will give him all the freedom he wants like they did for the series The Boys.

Wonder if Sam Neill will return to play as Dr. William Weir I mean there were only cast members that did survive in the end but they really that important to be brought back. But Sam Neill has to come back he was perfect.

There's a whole opening sequence that got dropped due to cost featuring the crew actually doing its job instead of failing at it, a rescue inside a collapsing asteroid. Peter Mitchell Rubin did a great set of previz storyboards for it that are probably on an extras disk someplace. Hope that material, along with some other stuff from the original screenplay, gets used, but am on fence over this, as except for production design and visual effects, I find this movie a tremendous -- no, overwhelming -- failure. That hasn't stopped me from buying and re-buying it, but again, art direction and awesome miniature effects work.

(never understood how they ran out of money either ... they didn't have money for model pyro for some of post, they had to curtail zero-gee during prep -- zero-gee that according to Richard Yuricich when I interviewed him was supposed to be featured for pretty much the whole movie -- down to just a couple shots, and they had to drop the whole opening. All this gone, for a movie that Paramount funded to a higher bill than they did for ANY of the first 10 trek movies. You can't tell me Neill and a pre-MATRIX Fishburne cost them bigtime.)

Guys, let's stop for a second and look at this; the actual narrative placement of the events of the 'Event Horizon' film are effectively the second act in what could be a 3 arc story. We are dropping in Post development of the ship and it's Drive, Post-disaster, post Dr Wier tragedy, and straight into a rescue mission. There is a lot of story to be told right here. I'd still see this as a full One-season, 10 hour epic...

I absolutely hated that song in the film and never understood it's importance or relevance. The late Michael Kamen nailed the score with it's dread-filled industrial relentless sound.

I hated the song too, but it was another case for me of misheard lyrics, because I thought they were singing ''****ing ship" (as in fishburne's' "**** this ship.")

One of my favourite films and still holds up well to this day. I love that it doesn't explain everything and leaves you having to think about stuff. With a series they will obviously delve deeper and I wont complain about that as I would like to see it expanded upon. Can't wait!

Kamen's score is amazing. It's a shame we've never had a complete soundtrack release of it.

Also yeah the song is out of place but I have a soft spot for The Prodigy so...

Thanks for bringing me back to some nostalgia now I am listening to The Prodigy - Fat of the Land album and their older works. Man Paul W.S. Anderson was good at one thing back than such as for Mortal Kombat the right choice of Techno music sure miss it heck his movies were actually were watchable.
