Wait a minute, a Disney animated TV series getting a complete season release? And getting a complete season release on Blu-ray? Is such a thing even possible?? I haven't watched this show but great to hear Disney is giving it a complete Season 1 release. Now I'm wondering if this is just because it has the Star Wars name over it, or if this is the start of Disney finally giving their animated shows full season box sets. I'm hoping it's the latter and a Gravity Falls Blu-ray will follow as well.

I'm 99.9% sure it's because of the Star Wars brand. Don't expect other shows any time soon.

It aired in 1.78:1 so I would think that's what we will get.

Possibly. But Clone Wars aired in 1.78:1 too, and those were 2.35:1 on BD.

Clone Wars was produced in 2.35:1 and did air this way in some parts of the world. Rebels was not.

Was wondering if this would get a Blu-ray release since Disney never gives any of its shows that treatment. Hopefully if this sells well then they'll reconsider their practices, but they'll probably just attribute its success to being part of the Star Wars brand.

Well, Disney did release the final season of The Clone Wars. So I'm glad this is coming to Blu-ray. Pre-order day one.

I've been waiting forever for this. I couldn't watch this anywhere, legally at least.

Is the show any good? When does it take place timeline wise?
I might blind-buy it.

I have yet to get all the CW on BD, since some of them just have a lossy soundtrack (, and don't tell me that's enough. It's a principle.)

Rebels takes place in-between Revenge Of The Sith and A New Hope, it is set 5 years prior to ANH. It chronicles the beginnings of the group who will together with others join in an alliance that may one day oppose the empire. Its slightly different in tone to CW, as it only follows a small crew of characters and it is more akin to the original 3 star wars films light hearted attitude. It grows as do the characters over the first season. It has some terrific voice work, especially from Jason Isaacs, its a different art style to clone wars, different texturing, more based on the work of the late and great star wars concept artist ralph Macquarie. By the end of the season the stakes are far higher than they are initially, season 2 is going to apparently up them even more. There's some great subtle touches too such as the imperial propaganda and the way they oppress the masses. Some notable OT players do appear in this but I won't spoil whom. In my opinion it is an excellent successor to the clone wars, sure its not quite as good as the later seasons of clone wars, but neither was Clone Wars's first season.

Bottom line: Go into it with an open mind, wanting to be taken on an adventure with OT sensibilities and you should enjoy it! Its a tad slow to begin with, but as soon as it gets to the midseason it kicks into high gear, by the finale its gripping and leaves you wanting season 2 to air sooner!
