Awesome! I bought this on DVD at Big Lots years ago, but never watched it. Hopefully someone (that isn't Twilight Time) releases "All the Real Girls" on Blu-Ray.

Hopefully it IS Twilight Time, because they'll actually include subtitles whereas cheap-o Olive still discriminates against the hard of hearing.

The commentary and documentary on the DVD are pretty awesome.
Bummer they probably won't be ported over. Because of mostly bare bones releases I don't give Olive a lot of business, but I'll be buying this for the PQ/AQ upgrades since DGG is an all-time favorite and I love this underrated film. |

Great news. Undertow is an excellent film - I remember seeing this in the theater back in 2004/2005 (limited release). Not quite sure how to classify this movie - possibly Southern gothic?!....

Hey all. I watched the Blu of Undertow last night and here's the deal: the only extra ported over is the trailer, albeit in AVC and 2.0 DTS-HD Master Audio, identical specs to the film itself. No subs/captions of any kind, and 9 chapter stops.
The Blu-ray cover is what has been shown, which is the gorgeous one-sheet for the film itself. The only menu is a still of the two brothers chasing the train down to jump inside. No warnings/logos save for the Olive Films show up before this menu. As for the transfer itself, after steeling myself for it with Olive Films and its reputation for receiving the "lesser" transfers from studios like MGM, etc.... I was absolutely floored by how beautiful the film looked. Ages beyond the still-okay DVD, with the grain preserved entirely, albeit with some light noise. Color reproduction is wonderful, and the blacks are very deep. Truly, this will never look better, and I am thankful one of my favorite films was found in such great shape. Thanks to Olive Films for releasing it and for doing as right by it as they could. I checked periodically and I'd say the Mbps for the video never went under 25 and stayed around the 28-30 area. Considering the only thing on the disc is the film and the 2-minute trailer, compression looks to be good. Nicks and scratches on the film aren't rampant, but some are still there. Anyway, just thought y'all would wanna know. For $12.99, you really can't go wrong, especially if you're already a fan. Southern Gothic doesn't get much better than this. ![]() |

You're very welcome, dude.
I didn't mention in my mini-overview, but detail is pretty superb as well. The film was always pretty grainy and hazy thanks to the filters DGG and the cinematographer opted for, but truly, the Malick influences have never been more present than in the colors of this Blu transfer. Wow. I am still left mightily impressed by its treatment. Buy away! ![]() Oh, and as for the 2.0 sound mix... Eh. I'm not very knowledgeable in that area, but it sounded pretty much how I've always heard it. Crisp, clear, and perfectly adequate. |

lol Worth visiting just for the comment on the page. ![]() I mean, Twilight Time released Titus. According to some of the consensus around these here parts, that master was more of an Olive Films release than a TT one. So this must be a damned revelation in comparison! Meh. Anyway, Undertow looks lovely in motion. I strongly urge everyone who wanders into this thread to buy without hesitation at it's current price on Amazon (well, if you're a Prime member, 'cause it's only available as a Prime buy)! ![]() |
