Akhavan is set to direct “The Miseducation of Cameron Post” with Chloë Grace Moretz and “American Honey” breakout star Sasha Lane to star. The film is based on Emily Danforth’s acclaimed and controversial coming-of-age novel of the same name. Set in 1993, the story follows a girl who is forced into a gay conversion therapy center after getting caught with the prom queen.

Moretz will portray Cameron, an orphan who’s taken in by her ultra-conservative aunt, and Lane is Cameron’s friend and fellow “disciple” at the conversion therapy clinic to which they are sent. John Gallagher Jr., Forrest Goodluck and Jennifer Ehle will co-star. [...]

All of them got decent theatrical releases except I Don't Feel At Home which went right to Netflix. Very interested to see who picks this up. I'm hoping it gets a theatrical release so not Netflix. Whoever does needs to get it out as soon as they can. By May I'd say to distance itself as much as possible from Boy Erased. The pedigree involved in that makes this WAY more likely to get overshadowed so it's important this releases first.

Saw this tonight. Not sure about it being an awards contender beyond its Sundance victory, but it's a solid film. I like that it's doesn't go for overly dramatic moments and despite the subject matter, actually has a fair amount of humor, which may make it more accessible to indie audiences.

That looks really good, looks like it’s going to be tonally different to seemingly more hard hitting Boy Erased.

Not really, other than both have a "handwritten" nature to them which goes with any down-to-earth teen drama.

I really hope this opens here. The only FilmRise movie my theater has gotten was My Friend Dahmer and that was when it was in only 45 theaters in its second weekend, which was really impressive. I think this one will at least match that film's box office if not even going a bit higher with 2-3 Million so maybe we can get it. But it's also releasing during a busier time for theaters so it's less likely to open here than Dahmer. Still holding out hope.
