Paramount Roosevelt (Scorsese & DiCaprio)

Roosevelt, a drama about Teddy Roosevelt, has been set at Paramount as a star vehicle for Leonardo DiCaprio with Martin Scorsese directing. Scott Bloom has been set to write the drama, and DiCaprio and Jennifer Davisson are producing through their Appian Way banner, along with Martin Scorsese and Emma Koskoff through Sikelia, with Chuck Pacheco also producing. Appian set the film at Paramount through its first look deal with the studio. [Source]

Looks like we posted duplicate threads at the same time. I've contacted a moderator to have mine deleted.

But this will be a must-see.

I'm there. Day One. Nothing will keep me away.

One of our best directors, one of our best actors, and a subject who was one of the most interesting people in the history of our country.

Yes, please.

Despite its very American subject, The Aviator is one of my favorite films. I have no reason not to be excited for this new biopic directed by Scorsese. In fact, I tend to like American presidential biopics, perhaps more than I should, being a foreigner and all.

"We're #1! We're #1!"

Well, seriously though, Teddy is a great subject. He had an absolutely fascinating life and was a very interesting man. I can see Leo doing a great job portraying him too.

But yeah, I was thinking about how well -- or not well -- this might play overseas given the subject matter. OTOH, it is DiCaprio and Scorcese. So it's got that going for it. Plus, this really sounds like a passion project for both of them, in the end.

Lincoln grossed less than 100 million overseas, but JFK was a moderate hit with 135 million, so who knows. I suppose that, yes, DiCaprio's presence will help drum up interest among non-Americans.

Teddy Roosevelt is a great subject for a movie, especially from these two. I'll be there opening night. Just hope DiCaprio doesn't get buried under too much makeup again (and I liked J. Edgar, but come on...).

I would expect Lincoln to be hard sell overseas. I mean, the Civil War? Hell, that's a hard sell here!

JFK OTOH was a fun conspiracy theory and crime drama. It didn't even need to be based on reality to still be entertaining. In some ways, it was like a very well-made, VERY long episode of Law & Order.

Actually, I had totally forgotten that JFK isn't a JFK biopic at all. Brain fart. My bad.

Heh. Well, his assassination is unfortunately what he's most well-known for.

Ehh, there are Civil War fans outside of the US too.

I've been fascinated by it as long as I can remember.

I recently watched the Ken Burns doc, The Roosevelts, via Netflix. TR was a fascinating figure in American history so this should be a must see flick given the subject matter and the talent involved in this production. Wonder if this will be a late 2018 release or will we have to wait until 2019 given they may not even have a script yet.

I wonder if this will ever even materialize. They have The Devil in the White City and Killers of the Flower Moon to get to as well (first?). And Scorsese will be busy with The Irishman for a decent chunk of time.

Either way, I'm obviously on board.

I didn't mean to imply that no one's interested in it. But these days it's just not something that helps to sell a film. I mean, when Gone With the Wind came out, for instance, the war had been over what? About 70 years? So while there weren't many people still around who remembered the war itself, there were a LOT of people, especially in the South, who vividly remembered Reconstruction. And there were lots of people around who lost parents or other family members in the War.

Now, however, it's been over for 152 years. And honestly, the fact that slavery was such a big part of it makes it an ugly subject for all involved.

But sure, there are definitely people interested in it. No question. I just think it's a hard sell, like I said.

I hope Devil in the White City gets made before this does. I feel like Marty gets linked to so many films, I Hope his time doesn't run out before they're all made.

Does anybody know if he's still attached to the proposed Tyson biopic starring Jamie Foxx?
