"David Gardner, I'll get you! I'll get you, David Gardner!" I'd be ecstatic if both versions were in HD, but this will be a definite pre-order regardless. No need for the 3-disc here though.

I'll be buying the single disc...but I always HATED the ending of this film. On repeat viewing it's easier to take because you know it's coming, but this thing might've been a classic (or at least better received) had they found some other way to finish it. A real downer lol

What a nice surprise! I've always enjoyed this one, though it is rather cheesy. I saw it last a couple years ago on my DVD. The effects and set design are pretty impressive. The acting not so much. Nice opening titles - clearly a rip-off from Superman: The Movie. I'll definitely order this one.

I have. It's not as bad as the 86 version. AWFUL ending.

Nice Koch disc though...I always prefer the overseas releases to Shout's US versions with their "magic encoder" compression issues.

I wrote it in the US subforum too, but, could anyone please that has this release grab a couple of screenshots that match those of the US review here?
https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Invad...2/#Screenshots
I'd like to compare to see what is the best version to get.
I have a hunch that it is the German one.

(although the Shout one does have a 5.1 track while the German one doesn't have it)

I've made this comparison, but the frames are not exact.
It seems as though the German Bluray has better grain depiction (see in the brighter areas - especially around the boy), and is a bit darker.

The German disc is superior, especially when you see them in motion. When in doubt, go with Koch over Shout every time...some of the differences in their releases are major (like THE ISLAND, where the Koch disc is obviously better), some negligible, but even on INVADERS FROM MARS you can see a difference in the compression. Shout's release does have some nice extras, but if you're just looking for the best a/v, go with the German disc.

As for the 5.1 track, most of the ones on Shout's releases are 5.1 upmixes they've created in-house and are worthless. The 2.0 tracks are unmolested and often sound far superior, so you are not missing much there.

what about the UK disc? I've got both mediabook and UK BD's in my collection

UK features LPCM 2.0 audio (which sounded quite nice IMHO)

I was really disappointed with this movie when I saw it in the theater. I am a huge fan of the original movie... the production design, color and composition of every shot are gorgeous. Not surprising since the director was a children's book illustrator. But the remake didn't even try to do that. As much as I like a lot of his other movies, I think Tobe Hooper was the wrong choice for this movie.

Regarding the extras, what are the "German Opening" and "German Ending" like? Are they substantially different than the original?

Pretty sure they mean german text like localizations as usual.

In the original German version the ending of the movie was cut.
[Show spoiler]The movie ended with the kid waking up and his parents coming into the bedroom. You did not see the UFO landing and the nightmare becoming real.

So it's the same footage, just cut short? Is the German opening the same as the US, just with German titles?
