Default The matter of A Matter of Life and Death.

Has anybody seen or heard anything at all regarding a remastered Blu-ray of A Matter of Life and Death? It seems very odd to me that we've got swanky looking releases of The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp, Black Narcissus and The Red Shoes but not for, what I consider to be, the best of the Powell and Pressburger bunch. I know it's available region free from France and Germany, but I've not read good things about the transfer. I'm assuming that whatever rights issues there may be with licensing and such would be the same for Blimp, Shoes & Narcissus and would therefore not be an issue at all since they've been polished up and available for quite some time.

Last I heard Marty et al. were trying to raise funds for a new restoration (the previous only being a chemical one). Let's hope they manage eventually!

This and The 49th Parallel are the two P&P titles I want most.

If Scorsese wants to go the crowdfund route for the restoration fee, I'll gladly contribute. A Matter of Life and Death is my favorite P&P film; it's also the most romantic film ever made, imo.

"A Matter of Life and Death" is my favorite P&P film too. Wonder why it has been missing for so long. If can look as good as "Colonel Blimp" that would be great

It's obvious whatever elements are out there aren't good enough at the moment. I'd rather have no release than an average one and wait for the film to be restored.

Sorry, that link is a bit faulty.

Just Google:

"61st london film festival a matter of life and death"

At the bottom:

Quote:
...here in a painstaking restoration that offers the chance to see it at its most gorgeous...Additional information...Restored in 4K by Sony Pictures Entertainment
And yet still people claim there's no evidence of a benevolent deity.

A blu-ray version has been available in France for years... Not sure if it was region-locked or not...

Is it a brand new exclusive restoration or based on the same as the french and german Blu-ray?
