Damn, as expected..no English subtitles! I love Japan's Longest Day film. It really exposed me to that hidden history of a planned coup de eta by a military junta against the Japanese Emperor's decision to surrender. Mifune's performance as the War Minister is memorable (with one of the most horrific scenes of seppuku I've seen).
Japan's Longest Day was actually recently remade as The Emperor in August. Though I felt the original is still powerful, the remake still held well on its own (this time with Koji Yakucho playing the War Minister). The blu-ray has English subs too. |
