Default Sleep Tight - great psychological thriller from REC director!

Just pointing this film up as I know it might be below most people's radars.

Saw it the other night and it's easily one of the best films I've seen all year and maybe one of the best psychological thrillers I've ever seen.

It does bear some similarity to THE RESIDENT but everything that movie did wrong, this one does right. The main character is one of the creepiest in cinema history but only because he's portrayed with real nuance and mystery. In truth, the film's a character study and all the more disturbing because it only asks us to see the world through his eyes. Don't be expecting it to develop in the usual Hollywood ways - it doesn't; but that only lends to the sometimes unbearable suspense and a couple of jaw-dropping developments. I was really on the edge of my seat with this one, and that doesn't happen often.

I'll say no more as it's best seen without foreknowledge. But if you're a fan of the subtler end of horror movies like HALLOWEEN or of psychological thrillers like THE TENANT, you're in for a treat with this one. It's Spanish so expect subtitles. There's some gore but generally it's more about tension and darkness.

I got the bare-bones Blu which is a Sainsbury's exclusive but as soon as I'd watched it I ordered the US version, which includes a nearly two-hour long doc. Definitely worth a rental at least.

Yup.

Though I think that review is off. The thing it's being criticised for is exactly what I liked about it - namely that you're forced to see things through the antagonist's eyes, which makes it much more disturbing imo. There are times when you're rooting for him but you know it's wrong.

Stumbled across this one on Prime Video and my opinion pretty much mirrors that of the OP. I was expecting a hokey DTV horror film and ended up being both creeped out and on edge during the more tense moments. As mentioned, this one has some very unconventional twists and turns and I'd also suggest going in with minimal advanced knowledge. Probably among the better thrillers I've seen in ages.

Oh it's Prime? Cool!

Thanks for the heads up!

I'd watch it tonight, but gotta get up super early for golf. Damn. Oh, well. I know what I'll be doing tomorrow night.
