Default Space Sheriff Gavan

Just announced by Discotek tonight! It’s on their October slate.

Space Sheriff Gavan!

The entire series in HD.
On top of the entire series, there's a big extra (as long as a movie) with Kenji Ohba & Osamu Kaneda discussing the series & the history of toku.
Plus a gallery & an essay about the series!

I put together a Metal Hero checklist, just in case they do release more installments.

Blue = released by Discotek
Red = footage used for a Saban production (VR Troopers/Big Bad Beetleborgs)
Green = crossover with other Toei brands (Super Sentai/Kamen Rider)

Series: Space Sheriff Gavan (1982-1983)
Series: Space Sheriff Sharivan (1983-1984)
Series: Space Sheriff Shaider (1984-1985)
Movie: Space Sheriff Shaider: The Movie (1984)
Movie: Space Sheriff Shaider - Pursuit! The Strange Kidnappers (1984)
Series: MegaBeast Investigator Juspion (1985-1986) (SD-BD)
Series: Jikuu Senshi Spielban (1986-1987)
Series: Choujinki Metalder (1987-1988)
Movie: Superhuman-Machine Metalder (1987)
Series: Sekai Ninja Sen Jiraiya (1988-1989)
Series: The Mobile Cop Jiban (1989-1990) (SD-BD)
Movie: The Mobile Cop Jiban: Great Explosion at the Monster Factory of Fear (1989)
Series: Special Rescue Police Winspector (1990-1991) (SD-BD)
Series: Super Rescue Solbrain (1991-1992)
Series: Special Rescue Exceedraft (1992-1993)
Series: Special Investigation Robo Janperson (1993-1994) (SD-BD)
Movie: Special Investigation Robo Janperson: The Movie (1993)
Series: Blue SWAT (1994-1995)
Movie: Blue SWAT: The Movie (1994)
Series: Juukou B-Fighter (1995-1996)
Movie: Juukou B-Fighter: The Movie (1995)
Series: B-Fighter Kabuto (1996-1997)
Series: B-Robo Kabutack (1997-1998)
Movie: B-Robo Kabutack: The Epic Christmas Battle (1998)
Series: Tetsuwan Tantei Robotack (1998-1999)
Movie: Tetsuwan Tantei Robotack and Kabutack: The Great Strange Country Adventure (1999)
Movie: Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger vs. Space Sheriff Gavan (2012)
Movie: Space Sheriff Gavan: The Movie (2012)
Movie: Kamen Rider x Super Sentai x Space Sheriff: Super Hero Taisen Z (2013)
Movie: Space Sheriff Sharivan: The Next Generation (2014)
Movie: Space Sheriff Shaider: The Next Generation (2014)
Movie: Space Squad: Gavan vs. Dakaranger (2017)
Movie: Girls in Trouble: Space Squad Episode Zero (2017)
Movie: Uchu Sentai Kyuranger vs. Space Squad (2018)

I feel like anything used by Saban or crossovers with another franchise is probably unlikely, but hopefully the rest is fair game!

More like very unlikely considering Sato Company (known distributor in Brazil) tried to get Space Squad but was blocked due to Hasbro.

Confirmed 2 years ago during a live stream that has since went private.

Even though its only Metal heroes adjacent, I would love for Discotek to rescue license Lady Battle Cop

True, but this was 2 years ago when Hasbro was still getting their shit together with their new property. Things might be different now if they tried again.

They would likely still have to go through Hasbro. Fiveman is a partner release with eOne after they were granted control of Hasbro's media distribution. If Discotek or anyone else wanted to license shows that used characters affiliated with those Saban brands, they would probably need to work things out with them first.

I'm not saying it's impossible, but the odds are low. Maybe if things work out good with Shout Factory then they can do it since they already have that relationship.

Kikaider (original series, 01, and the reboot movie) is licensed by a Hawaiian based distributor. The DVDs are old and a bit on the expensive side, but they're still in print. Same distributor also has Kamen Rider V3 and Inuzuman. Since their license is for the United States I don't think anyone else can get them.

I don't know if they have any interest in releasing those shows on Blu-ray.

I question if they still have the license active at this point. Either they keep re-upping it without putting out new product or they're just stuck trying to unload their unsellable stock.

It always puzzled me why they don't put out a Kikaida boxed set instead of insisting on selling 9 individual DVDs

Silly question, but any idea if Amazon is going to lower their price to closer to Rightstuf? $70 is a big ask, especially internationally where with taxes and shipping it's closer to $100 for the set

Not gonna happen because at this moment Discotek Media self-distributes their titles exclusively via Rightstuf and Amazon. There's no reason for Amazon to lower the price when their competitors don't carry Discotek Media titles.

Since you're in the UK, you might wanna ask United Publications if they can add Gavan to the store. They buy wholesale from Rightstuf.

I feared as much. I may just cancel my pre-order and wait. I'm sad that Discotek don't deal with WowHD and DD anymore, it's where I used to get their titles from back the day. I will contact United Publications and see if they have any plans to get it in stock, thanks for the recommendation!

I just got Space Sheriff Gavan in the mail this afternoon. Haven't had a chance to actually watch it yet, but I did snap a few screenshots (directly from the disc) for anyone who's interested.

And a couple shots of the packaging. I wonder if they'll rework the Toku Time logo; it's pretty much an unreadable smear.
