Default In Search of Tomorrow ('80s Sci-Fi Doc)

Quote:
A crowdfunded documentary is pulling back the curtain on a time when movies like Blade Runner took place in the future. In Search of the Future will look at the making of classic '80s sci-fi movies such as Back to the Future, Aliens, The Terminator and Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, among many others.

In Search of the Future is directed by veteran entertainment journalist David Weiner, who previously helmed the '80s horror documentary In Search of Darkness. He is also a contributor to The Hollywood Reporter, where he has written lengthy features on the 1978 animated film The Lord of the Rings and 1979's Star Trek.

"In Search of Tomorrow will be a celebration of the imagination, exploring the most creative and eclectic sci-fi movies of the ‘80s, year-by year, with the creative icons who helped to capture our collective imaginations," Weiner says in a statement.

The makers of the documentary are also organizing a number of online events surrounding its making. Source

Extreme buyer beware with this CreatorVC Studios, "In Search Of" series and anyone involved in the making of these. Donate at your own risk because you are likely not to receive the product, or if you do it will be extremely shoddy, and not work properly in your player. They have a ton of negative feedback on their Indiegogo page so I guess they decided to fund this time on Kickstarter. Did I forget to mention their lack of customer service? Cause most likely they won't get back to you either...

Just my two cents, but do your research before you spend your money

I finally saw the In Search of the Last Action Hero documentary on Vudu and really enjoyed it. I'd happily back this, but given all of the feedback, I won't be backing this. Were they more reputable, I'd happily throw $74 their way for a Blu-ray copy, but as is, I'll just hope it shows up on digital somewhere.

I back "In search of darkness" a while back, and, even though I personally had no issues with the disc,I do remember that they sold a special Elvira limited edition when the funding closed, not offering the backers a replacement of course.
I remember it rubbed me the wrong way,me and the other backers.
Why isn't a perk for a single blu ray anyway?
I don't care about posters and stickers...

I wonder if anything "foreign language films" besides Akira gets to be talked about. It was bit disappointing "in search of darkness" that they really only talked about American and Brittish horror films. That documentary also could have more of those sections where they covered different topics instead of talking about every entry of the big horror franchises. Those really didn't need to be covered so much even though they are important.

I backed and bought both In Search of the Last Action Heroes and In Search of Darkness and really liked them both. I had no problems with either purchase so I can’t relate to any of the supposed negativity. I’m continuing to do the same with In Search of Tomorrow as I think this is a great little series to own. They might be pricy but I like them.

After backing both In Search of Darkness and In Search of Last Action Heroes (liked both documentaries), I would certainly be more than willing to back this. But after all the crap and deception that CreatorVC Studios have pulled (from unreliable shipping, BD-Rs, etc) , I will never support this or their future projects.

I am wondering how much overlap there is with In Search of the Last Action Hero, because they talk about Predator, Robocop, and Aliens a good bit in that, for instance and really, those are going to be the main focus of this because those are really the big guns here save for Star Trek and Star Wars. I mean, I love the 80's, but lets not act like every film needs to be discussed ad nauseum. I don't care to hear anyone talk about Earth Girls are Easy, personally.

For those interested, the James Cameron produced Story of Science Fiction is quite terrific and covers a lot of classic sci-fi films and literature.

So I've read up on the issues surrounding their other two docs. Seems to me that they owned up to their failures, apologized about their inexperience and fails, and rectified the situation by sending out replacements. Is there still issues going on?

Also, how exactly did they decieve people? I know the initial product was shit quality but did they promise specific quality and pressed discs in their original posts?

I'm not arguing whatsoever, they definitely f***** up by picking that first manufacturer. But if after they saw the results they realize they f***** up and they actually went ahead and replaced everything, then I'd say everything's good to go. I don't see any deception in my research, which is why I'm curious.

I messed them twice once thru kickstarted and once tru an email provided here and never heard anything back in regards to me getting a corrected copy. In the end im annoyed buy atleast my disc work and the printed label isnt messed up like others. Im not sure if it was them being deceitful or it could just be they got burned and were too small do deal with the volume of issues that occured but im personally going to no back this and just wait for a mod or digital like last action hero got.

My biggest issue with these is that to get them I'd have had to drop 90-100 Canadian dollars, which is definitely not gonna happen. I could get like 8 regular movies or 3-4 boutique label Blus for that much dough. If these every pop on on Amazon for 20 or so, I'll gladly pick them all up.

I got the first copies sent out of the ISoD and it was a crappy BD-R. I’ve sent four or five messages to them stating not only were the copies BD-Rs but they also didn’t work for a lot of BR players. I was promised a replacement and that was over three months ago. I still have not received it. I’ve also read that a lot of the ones who backed the project very early on have not received replacements as well.

Okay got it, so the replacement program is still in progress. Hopefully all is well eventually, I saw on the comments on their pages that some are getting the new versions. On their new campaign I see they are promising pressed discs and high quality specifically, was that wording in the original campaigns?

That was what they originally also promised regarding their last two releases. Action Heroes never got a pressed disc and I´m still waiting regarding my Elvira Set, almost 8 months after it should have been released. But they took more orders in three times till now, even if they sold it as a limited edition for backers.

Fun stuff.

Yes watched my digital version yesterday it was 5 hours long.
If you liked the in search of darkness docs you will like this too.
Broken down by decades and other segments thrown in.
Mine arrived yesterday morning via email.

They basically hit on the major movies but did talk about some smaller releases too overall was a fun watch. I did take a break every hour as 5 hours is too long in one sitting obviously.

I backed the ISOD Trilogy Blu-ray and asked specifically if they were pressed discs. I love the concept and what I've seen, and I know a lot of work goes into it all, but 70 bucks is a huge ask for the scifi. I did 130 for the Horror Trilogy with the Set holder and felt that price was more than fair.

Hoping down the line I can acquire just the Blu-ray for a cheaper price somewhere.
