Hong Kong Wolf Warrior 2 (2017) No 3D Blu-ray

Fingers crossed this comes out in Hong Kong on 3D blu ray...

The film broke Chinese box-office records but unfortunately when it was released in UK cinemas recently the distributors only saw fit to release the 2D version, so there's no hope of a 3D blu ray in the UK.

In the US this is with the dreadful WellGo USA, who seem to be maintaining their dunderheaded policy of buying 3D films and then only releasing them in 2D, so no hope of a 3D blu ray there either.

This looks good but like you say no chance of a UK 3D blu so that puts me out of luck.

It's made almost $700 million in China and still has a ways to go in its box office run there. Stunning numbers. It *has* to get a Hong Kong 3-D blu release. Just has to. ::crosses fingers::

Looks interesting. I'd be curious to see how the 3D is for it too.

With any luck it gets a 3-D Blu-ray release in Hong Kong that has English subtitles.

Never heard of the movie.....but from the poster alone it makes me think of something along the lines of The Expendables franchise?

There are a few exceptions but pretty much every Hong Kong DVD and blu ray has English and Chinese subtitles, it's one of the legacies of British rule (I think).

The Hong Kong release of the first movie is region free and has subtitles

It's like a mainstream American action movie, a bit like Rambo, but Chinese.

How good are the action scenes for the first one? I assume the story is pretty forgettable but if the action is spectacular I'd still be interested. Also, is the 3D good?

It's all fairly forgettable in a guns and explosions mainstream kind of way, but the 3D is decent.

Well Go just announced this title, and it's 2D only. I guess our only hope is Hong Kong.

That was always the only hope. WellGo have a track record of buying Chinese 3D movies and then only releasing them in 2D, they are worse than Disney for what they have done to sideline 3D, the way they've released Tsui Hark's recent films is a crime against cinema...

Thumbs down

it looks like Wolf Warriors 2 is not getting a blu ray 3d release in Hong Kong, very frustrating IMO, the first film got a blu ray 3d release in Hong Kong.

From the preorders i've seen on DDDHouse, it's only the 2d blu ray and 4k UHD versions up for preorder, it's distributed in Hong Kong by Universe Digital Entertainment this time around, not Panorama.

No 3d = No Sale.

Not happy about this.

Unfortunately, it isn't getting a blu ray 3d release in Hong Kong, i checked DDDHouse and Bad Panda Shop and it's only the 2d blu ray and 4k UHD versions up for preorder, no 3d version.

I am sad to see that many Asian films are not released in 3D anymore on blu. Just a few examples:
- Feng Shen Bang / League of Gods (2016)
- L.O.R.D. Legend of Ravaging Dynasties (2016)
- China Bigfoot: Legend of the Yeren / Journey to the Forbidden Valley (2016)
- Kung-Fu Yoga (2017)
- Wu Kong (2017)
- Once Upon A Time (2017)
- and now Wolf Warrior 2 (2017)

Similar trend as in the US...

With US releases of 3d blu rays basically history, thank goodness China still produces their movies in 3d for us to import....wait a minute...

Those would have been tremendous releases in 3d from the looks of the trailers.

This can't be happening....but it is. I was so sure that after 6 years 3d was here to stay in the mainstream. Just proves the industry can mess up a wet dream.

We have some HK/China movies/blurays coming up:
- Legend of the Naga Pearls (2017)
- The Thousand Faces of Dunjia (2017) (directed by Yuen Woo-ping and produced by Tsui Hark)
- Guardians of the Tomb / Tomb Guardians (2018)
- Detective Dee: The Four Heavenly Kings (2018) (Tsui Hark)
- Legend of the Ancient Sword (2018)
- The Legend of Famen Temple (2018)
- The War Between Huang Di and Chi You (2018) (Johnnie To)
- The Monkey King 3: Kingdom of Women (2018)

Let's see how many of those will release on 3D blu. I hope it won't only be the 2 Tsui Hark movies... that would be a shame...

Hmmm.......not sure Guardians of the Tomb should be included on this list seeing how its co-produced between China and Australia. And is in English.

Because tickets for 3D films are more expensive than 2D, that's the main reason why many Chinses films will do a 3D version. Actually Wolf Warrior 2 got the chance to release in IMAX due to the high box office about a month after the original release, but the distributor decided to dropped the 3D version so only IMAX2D version was made.
