Default Are you addicted to buying blu rays?

I was thinking the other day that I might have a blu ray addiction. I bought my first blu ray player in 2014 and started buying blu rays. In the beginning I wasn't buying so many but as time passed I seem to always be on the lookout for a good sale and can't seem to pass up a blu ray at a good price. Luckily the majority of my blu rays have been bought at cheap prices but that only seemed to make my collection grow. In the beginning I was able to buy a blu ray and watch it soon after, but now I have many blu rays I haven't gotten around to watching. I am also running out of room to store them, I live in a small space. Collecting blu rays is my only hobby outside of buying the occasional lottery ticket. Does anyone else have this addiction?

Not really.

I am buying less than 3-4 years ago, maybe 15 a year or something like that. Mostly new releases cause I have all my favourite movies on my shelf already (some on DVD, so they will be upgraded when there will be a proper BD release - Terminator 2, The Abyss).

During my dvd to blu ray transition I used to buy everything in a rush, and I spent a lot. Also at one point i got into the expensive slasher blu ray craze. Nowadays I only buy what I really like, or what I find interesting. I tend to research what interests me before I buy it. This week I went to walmart and they had rings and bye bye man. The covers looked very appealing, but when I saw the 4 star ratings on imdb, I completely ignored them.

Definitely.

At least I'm pretty savvy about waiting for good sales, and driving those prices down further by shilling the digital copies when available.

I don't want to believe that I do, but I'm afraid the signs are pointing to yes.

When people visit our home, I love seeing their reaction to my collection. We can stand in front of my shelves for a long time as they search and talk about their favorite movies, and to see their excitement when they find it gives me a rush of satisfaction.

As an ex-manager for a Blockbuster video store, I have always been around movies, so my standard of excellence has been set pretty high. If my collection can remind people of those good ol days of cruising through the video store, then it makes me happy.

Oh, and I have video shelves from a video store that closed down, so that helps too. LOL.

Indeed I am. Collecting BD's since 2008 and even in the days of buying VHS/DVD my blu collection is the biggest of them all. Now I keep telling myself not to impulse to much about various 4K titles unless its a major improvement in Picture & Audio quality but currently its a loosing battle.....

I've gotten better this year. I was going a little crazy in years past but I haven't purchased too much this year. Quite a number of the ones I bought were ones for my son. For the most part I've cut out impulse buys (unless it was a stupid cheap price) and am mainly sticking to comic book stuff.

No signs of addiction here, none whatsoever.

I guess you could say that. I go through periods of binge buying but then I won't buy for months. Typically always wait for a good deal now and very rarely buy stuff at full price.

I prefer using the words "entrenched in my favorite hobby"

I simply can't think of a better way to spend my free time than sitting back and watching movies. Am I "addicted" to it? There are certain attributes to my viewing (and buying) habits that could be associated with addictive tendencies but I don't think that term applies here. For starters, being "addicted" to something implies an unhealthy need or desire for something that does you bodily harm. The only bodily harm I get from watching movies is a sore bottom
