I wasn't crazy about the front artwork when I first saw it, would have preferred something with just Rufus Sewell or him & Jennifer Connelly but I now don't mind it as much. I'm probably in the minority but I really liked this film and can't wait to add to my steelbook collection.

Count me in that minority.

Every release except for the one in Germany + Spain (although I think Spain got the DC later) + possibly Japan. Yes.
Those got the Theatrical Cut (urgh) only.

BUT I think the picture quality is way better than the other releases (not DNR'd to death).
For the theatrical cut simply skip the first 2 minutes of the movie. Stupid studio.

Yes, that's what I've been waiting for!! Gorgeous artwork!

Going to be a Day 1 update of that stinky, old New Line disc of mine.

Is this FR one better PQ like the DE? I already imported the DE.

The American and U.K discs had a problem with certain Sony players, where there was scratchy static on the soundtrack. Anyone know if there is any problem with the German or French releases?

And you can include me in the Dark City Fan Club. Loved it since seeing it in the cinema back in 98. Good to see it getting more popular over the years.

It's going to be worse in case it's the old Blu-ray.

The theatrical only BDs have way better PQ than the theatrical+director's cut BDs. That's why I also bought the DE one.

I can check my DE BD in case you tell me where exactly the issue is. Any link about it? I currently own a (cheapo) Sony BDP-S186. I can also check on my Region A PS3.

There's not much discussion about it, but I found these threads...

https://www.whathifi.com/forum/home-...sound-problems

https://hardforum.com/threads/dts-hd...blems.1534052/

The user who described it as sounding like a record playing is dead-on... and its like that for the entire film. However, if these German and French releases have new encodes, maybe the problem has been resolved.

Checked on PS3 + Sony BDP-S186. Works fine, audio is superb.
Although well I can't check the UK disc, because I don't own it. So I don't know if those 2 would be affected.
I had quite a few problems playing some other Blu-rays on the PS3 though.

The only thing that I don't like about the German BD is the silly large age rating on the cover. Sadly it's not reversible.

This steelbook may be the perfect packaging for that BD

Thanks. I'll think about getting these releases. It's one of my favorite sci-fi fantasies, but I haven't watched it in years, because of the problems I've had with the Blu-ray. The old DVD on a High-Def TV just looks wrong.

I ordered the German Blu-ray and I'm watching it right now... it has the same static on the soundtrack. Sounds like torrential rain beating on a window pane! I guess I'm not meant to enjoy this, until I buy another player.

The other language tracks seem to be unaffected.

Must be an issue with your exact BD player and the audio then.
Which BD player do you use? Sony? Which exact model?

Have you checked yours for any firmware updates?

Sony BDP-S470. I've had it since 2010. I've always been a little weary about firmware updates. Don't know if I should take the plunge.

Well, that may fix it. I updated mine several times some years ago without any issues. For mine I just had to burn the update to a CD and insert it.

Would be interesting to know if the issue goes away after updating.

You could at least check if there is a firmware update available and what got changed/fixed.
