Japan Ghost in the Shell BD Re-release

¥7140 MSRP, April 22 2011 release date. Looks to be a single-disc, perhaps the same BD disc as 2007's BCXA-5 release but w/o the extra DVD copy of the movie.

Can someone tell me what the transfer is like for the original film, as the UK Ghost in the Shell 2.0 only includes it as a very low quality extra. Thanks!

I'm just hoping that this and/or the UK steelbook includes the original in 1080p from a nice clean master, as opposed to some half-a$$ release.

I'm not at home right now, but I'll see if I can do that later.

It's definitely the American disc. The seller gave me a partial refund; not as much as I wanted, but he's located in Canada and I didn't want to haggle over the return shipping, which would eat up a good portion of the purchase price. Cut my losses/live & learn.

I'll live with it for now & consider either replacing the disc down the line, or purchasing again and selling this set as incomplete.

At least the other discs were intact/correct - original cut, privilege disc & CD - those were the ones I was mostly interested in anyway. And the packaging is in decent shape... quite handsome actually.

So here's a photo of the set I got:

[Show spoiler]

I could tell as soon as I slid the cases out that something was wrong, because they slid out too easliy, like they were too loose. If you look at the 2.0 case, you can see it's a standard US amray, slightly taller and not as thick as the ones the JP releases use.

Here are shots of the case & disc:

[Show spoiler]

You can see looking at the posts above by PPthenaughtyboy and Andrewtst that it's clearly the wrong disc. No Japanese text, and the logos & stock number don't match.

Anyway, as I said, I took a partial refund. Then I printed up some proper artwork to address my OCD, and took the amray case from my Ultraviolet import, which was the correct size:

Good for now. Will look at replacing down the line, as the JP 2.0 disc apparently does have different specs.

The JP 2.0 disc has only 2 'extras', both in HD:
  • "Promotion movie" (41 s)
  • "Theatrical Trailer" (51 s)

Here's the BDINFO scan for it:

In short, the JP disc has a ~50% higher video bitrate (34 mbps vs. 23 mbps) but has a 16-bit 6.1 channel JP audio track instead of the 24-bit 6.1 channel JP track on the US release, and also lacks the English dub (for what that's worth).

Do you know if the JP 2.0 disc sold individually is identical to the one sold in the box set?

I don't understand, this thread was first started to post about the ORIGINAL Ghost in the Shell film getting a re-release on Blu-ray back in 2011, and for some reason people started posting pics of that shitty 2.0 Box...2.0. is awful and should be avoided.

Fortunately, as Bubblegum mentioned, you can import the Japanese BD of the original print which comes with English audio and subtitles. The 2.0 version is absolutely awful, don't buy that garbage.
