Blu-ray Archduke

It looks like this film never had a topic, so I figured I'd create one.
MVD is releasing Sukikyaki Western Django which already has a Blu-ray, HOWEVER this release has a major difference. It has the original Japanese cut which adds about 22 minutes of extra footage. This is something that's bugged me for many years and it's great to have both cuts on the same release. If you like Japanese films and spaghetti westerns, then this is a good hybrid of the two. I got my copy in today and the Japanese cut looks fantastic. Only issue is that it doesn't have English subtitles, so some of the English lines are a bit hard to understand. Some actors say their lines more clearer than others. Overall, a great release. |

Thanks for starting this thread. This movie deserves it. I'm still waiting on my Amazon preorder. Where did you get it? Too bad about it not having subs for either cut but having seen it a few times already, it's not too big of a deal for me. I'm glad it looks good. Fun, very underrated Miike.

I compared a few scenes from both versions. They are identical.

I just watched the "Extended Cut" and I'm still torn as to which version I like. The US version moves at a much better pace, but I like some the extra footage in the longer cut. I really can't decide which version is the better film. |

I’ve not heard which cut he prefers, but he personally edited the International version. Both cuts offer pros and cons. I’m slightly leaning towards the International version for a more entertaining film.

I remember when this was listed as having both cuts that the Japanese version was originally SD, but might later be HD??
Can anyone confirm that the Japanese cut on here is HD as well as other cut? It might have been in the listing, and I missed it... thanks! |

MVD usually does a competent job with the a/v that I've seen from them. So far, they've all surpassed the original release in that respect. I'm more interested in the differences between the two cuts, as 20+ minutes is quite substantial. Unfortunately, Kauffman talks more about himself than the actual movie he's reviewing.

The extended cut only has lossy audio? I've had this since Day 1 and though I haven't seen it all the way through, I did give it a quick glance and my system read it as having the same DTS-HD MA track as the International Cut. The reviewer must be mistaken or got a faulty copy, right? No other online reviews mention tla lossy track. I would test it again but I let my brother borrow it.
