i hate to say it but im only getting this for 2 reasons this year. obviously number one because my team is thr cup champs in it again. and 2 for the nhl threes mode. that was a lot of fun. the gameplay in regular mode to me has take major strides backwards. the inbalance of the ai on both sides. the cpu blocking waaaaay too many shots. and intercepting every pass that goes near them. and how many times i lay a guy out with a big check just for them to get up and skate away with the puck is ridiculous.

Started playing this series 3 years ago with NHL 15. Still somewhat of a noob, but it's all fun for me. Looking forward to the Threes Mode as well.

This is the first year since 2007-08, that I will not be buying any NHL game. NHL Threes it's it's main new feature? Defensive skill stick which was in it in NHL 09? And this "news" makes me me comfortable with my decision. Though it would not surprise me if they give NBA Live the Frostbite engine first. NHL 15's removal of features that have been in the game for years thanks to the jump to next gen left a really bad taste in my mouth.

I wish we had another NHL game to go to. I miss 2K even though many people criticized it. 2K8 is my favorite hockey video game to this day.

I agree with your sentiments regarding 2K. The competition would certainly motivate EA a bit more. From what I can tell, this version of the game has better defense, goaltending and improved AI. Essentially, NHL 17.5. I care only about the franchise mode. This year's option to create a 32nd team (of which I will reintroduce the Hartford Whalers) sounds fun to me. I'll never try out HUT, 3 on 3 or any other feature in the game.

That Chiddy Bang song has been around since 2009. Probably the last time they actually made an effort to make a good game.

And this right here is why I don't spend money on sports games anymore. These series have been going on at EA for 25+ years and yet every year supposedly brings vast improvements to basic systems. How are they still spending time on stuff that should have been dialed in years ago? Yes I understand technological and staff changes but it seems like every year they spend so much time reinventing the wheel when they shouldn't need to.

They have the perfect business model. They get people buying every year, never fix it, forcing to fans of it to buy with a few buzzwords or "new" features the next year.

Is the goal music in it? I was playing in the play now mode and I was the hawks and no music only the horn. What is that about?

well they finally wisened up with the HUT mode and added challenges and all that kind of stuff .. about time ... maybe now those of us who don't have a ton of time to play online and refuse to spend real money on cards might have a shot now
