Default Child Actors

What do you think about child actors? Do you have a favorite or one in particular who impressed you in a movie or TV show?

My opinion is they tend to be horribly type-cast and under-utilized.

After one gets big, like Abigail Breslin, they're suddenly in every movie playing the exact same role. Even though she was praised for her acting in Little Miss Sunshine none of her recent movies have challenged her. Except maybe Kit Kittredge.

It's very rare that movies for adults will allow a child to have a big role. Even though when they do (e.g. The Professional, Interview With A Vampire, Lawn Dogs, etc.) they are just as good as the adults.

Anyways, my personal favorite right now is Elle Fanning. When Phoebe In Wonderland comes out you'll see why =].

My favorites are Freddie Highmore and Dakota Fanning. I hope to see them in a movie together sometime real soon.

Christian Bale was pretty good as a kid (Empire of the Sun, Newsies, Henry V)...I wish Turner TV would release their production of Treasure Island with Bale playing Jim Hawkins opposite Charlton Heston's Long John Silver---never seen it, sure would like to.

That's cause he's not a child anymore.

Dakota can be amazing but I hated Dreamer. National Velvet is the only horse movie for me.

I was particularly impressed by Jodie Foster in Taxi Driver. She has certainly grown up to be a an outstanding adult actress.

Shirley Temple, she was awarded an Academy Award at the age of six.

Unfortunately, she was no longer "cute" as an adult, so the public really wasn't supportive when she became an adult actress.

The only older child actress I like is Elizabeth Taylor. Really need to her adult movies someday.

There have been a lot of great child actors over the course of film history. Shirley Temple, Natalie Wood, Jodie Foster, Tatum O'Neil, Drew Barrymore, Dakota Fanning, Ron Howard, Peter Billingsley, Macaulay Culkin . It seems the girl child actors are the ones who stay in the business as they grow up where the boys tend to fade in and out of films. Some go on to become producers and directors

I saw Jodie Foster in The Little Girl Who Lives Down The Lane. That movie is crazy . She's really good in it.

They also seem to win all the Oscars. How many child Oscar winners have been male? Shirley Temple did. Tatum O'neil did. Anna Paquin did. Where are the boys??!! lol

When I saw Natalie Portman in "Beautiful Girls" (sorry, I hadn't seen Leon at that point) I knew I would be seeing more of her. Brainy little kid.

Had I seen Leon first, I would have asked "Who's this crappy little Sh*t?"

Sorry, but I think Portman peaked in Beautiful Girls... she's shite since...

I liked her in Closer and Garden State. Then I watched Leon and it's easily my favorite with her.

I'm amazed at Lindsay Lohan. She was very talented in Parent Trap but Disney gave her lame roles until her credibility died painfully. Not to say it wasn't her own fault to a degree, just Disney wasted talent.

Anna Paquin was an amazing child actress, and has grown into quite an adult actress. She won an Oscar at age 11 for The Piano. And she was great in X-men and now in Tru Blood.
