Cyrano the Moor (Disney)

David*Oyelowo is attached to star in a live-action musical penned by Moonlight*playwright*Tarell Alvin McCraney for Disney. *
The project, titled*Cyrano the Moor, will take from both William Shakespeare's revenge story*Othello and the classic French play*Cyrano de Bergerac, which tells the story of a large-nosed romantic who uses his words to help another man win the affection of the woman he loves.
Oyelowo would produce along with his wife, English actress Jessica Oyelowo. Yoruba Saxon, who worked with the actor on A United Kingdom, would also produce.*Tendo Nagenda and Chaz Salembier are overseeing for the studio.
Cyrano the Moor joins the long list of*live-action musicals Disney has in development and in various stage of production. Last year saw the release of Beauty and the Beast, which wowed at the global box office to the tune of $1.26 billion, while Guy Ritchie's*Aladdin will take a bow in 2019. The Oyelowo project is unique in that it will not be based on one of Disney's classic animations.*
Oyelowo*worked with the Disney on 2016's chess drama*Queen of*Katwe, and will next be seen Doug*Liman's*sci-fi*thriller*Chaos Walking*and the Blumhouse production Only You.*
McCraney, who won an Oscar for his work on Moonlight, recently opened his new play Head of Passes at the Mark Taper Forum.
