Default Netflix buffering when changing resolutions??

Lately, Netflix has been having a weird issue on my Roku 2 device. When you start a video, it starts out at 480 resolution, then several seconds later, increases to 720 and then 1080. This used to transition smoothly. But over the past couple of weeks, when the resolution switches from 720 to 1080, the video stops for a second or two to buffer. It's weird that this just suddenly happened and doesn't seem to correct itself with time as this has been happening for the past couple of weeks already. After that brief buffer during the change in resolution, the video plays fine after that. But it's just so annoying that it keeps happening every time I start playing a video and it's driving me off the wall.

Anyone else having this issue?

As some of you can recall from my other posts, it seems as though I am having quite a number of issues with the Roku. It seems to me that the Roku is a very glitchy device, which is shocking to discover since this type of streaming device comes highly recommended by many. Either that or I have defective device. But this Roku is already pushing me over the edge and I'm getting sick of it already.

I don't use Netflix, I subscribe to Amazon but for good Solid Streaming you need to be setup properly. From your other Post I see you have RCN, which is probably Cable coming over Coax. Roku's are fairly reliable Devices, but I never liked them that much, I setup some people with some of the first ones. I always say you have to be Hard Wired with Cat5, and have at least 50Mbps for good consistent 1080P. I see you have a Panasonic Blu-ray Player, that should have Streaming capabilities. Have you tried setting that up? Now I have a new Sony UHD TV, and it has Android Apps and it will hook you up to any Streaming Provider you want without any need for additional STB.

Yes I tried the Netflix on the Panny Blu-ray player. No buffering issues on it when streaming via wifi. The Roku, which is wired, is the only one having that strange buffering issue.

Well the Panasonic must have a good signal, but if you Hard Wire that I'm sure it will perform better. All you need is a GigaBit Switch, so you can Hard Wire your Roku and Panasonic. Now the only unanswered question is your Bandwidth, do you at least have over 25Mbps, if so you should be hot to go.

I have 50 mbps. I assure you that it's not my setup. I've had the Roku for a year and a half and the problem just happened recently. I tested my internet speed and it's fine. The Roku just seems like a glitchy piece of crap. I'll probably have to wait until Roku finds an update for their Netflix app. But considering that I'm the only person that's having this issue, it's seems unlikely that an update will come anytime soon...

It does sound like the Roku, I never had confidence in those Devices. I've had a few Panasonic Blu-ray Players, and have used their Streaming Apps with no problems. They have a Market Place, and you can setup any Streaming Provider through the Panasonic. I still have a Panasonic that I can Stream, but now all I use is the Sony UHD TV Streaming Apps.

I have the Roku as well and have this problem. And, like you, it's hard-wired and I have 100mb down. It's not the connection. It must be the Roku.

Its not their device or internet. I've run into this issue when streaming through my KS8000 tv.

Netflix gets a lot of Traffic, so if it's not your Devices it has to be your ISP. What people call Peering or the way your ISP connects to Netflix. Some large ISP's like AT&T and Verizon have Direct Paths, while smaller ones use different Carriers that might not handle the load properly. So you might look into your ISP Support for suggestions.

I've got my tv and One hooked up to the 5 ghz and the rest of the house is on the 2.4. Everything seems to be working as it should.

People love their Wireless, But the TCP/IP Protocol dates back to the 1970's, when Wired Ethernet was King. WiFi has gotten better, but when it runs into trouble it drops your Speed or Connection. That's why I always push Wired, but for Mobile Devices or if Wired is not possible then settle for Wireless.

Yes, I saw the Postings for your KS 65" Samsung UHD TV, and the Networking capabilities for Wired or Wireless has problems. My 65" Sony UHD TV is Hard Wired direct to my Fiber feed GigaBit Switch for both IPTV and Streaming and is Rock Solid. I have a ton of Android Apps that can connect to just about any Streaming Provider with no Buffering or any problems.

I wouldn't call what mine does buffering. It just takes about 2-3 seconds for it to bump from 1080p to 2160 via the app. Netflix turns on without issue unless the app didn't close out like it should have. Anyway, to each their own. Use what works for you I guess.

This issue has been fixed when Roku did some updates about a month or two ago. So it was definitely some sort of Roku or app glitch that was fixed when updated.
