Default Prom Night III: The Last Kiss/Prom Night IV: Deliver Us From Evil

Figured there should be a thread for them since there's one for Hello Mary Lou on 4K.

Thanks for starting this and I think it was a good idea to group the two together. I thought about making a thread myself but I didn't know if there would be enough interest this far out from release... I was worried I had jumped the gun starting a thread on Hello Mary Lou so early but I was so excited I couldn't resist.

Also very excited for both of these. I don't love Deliver Us From Evil but it's not without interest and I'll be happy to revisit it again and learn more about the film's production history. The Last Kiss, on the other hand, is a total blast. I don't know if I like it as much as the second one but it's so much fun and deserves to finally have a proper release. Red Shirt Pictures really made my week with these announcements.

Cannot wait for these. Love the "Prom Night" franchise. Wish we could get a new Rated R movie as well. And how cool is it for Red Shirt Pictures to mention possibly making a box to house them all in after releasing them as they become available so as not to hold up the releases!

Literally just watched both for the first time within the past week. Both were fun stories and can't wait to get the restored versions.

I only seen the first and fourth films in the series. Are 2 and 3 any good?

A lot of people (myself included) think 2 is the best in the series. Pretty much a completely different type of movie than 1, though. 2 and 3 are supernatural rather than straight slashers.

I'm happy they are getting released and I like the work that synapse does but I am very disappointed synapse is releasing them because I don't expect to see this for at least 2 or 3 years.

They are just painfully slow at releasing anything.

Once again, Synapse is not releasing these, it’s Red Shirt Pictures, a separate company. Synapse is only acting as distributor, maybe helping with some of the extras

I always assumed that the AV restoration (which per the message in the OP, Synapse is handling), is what typically takes so long with their releases. In which case, concern with wait time still seems warranted (unless I’m wrong that that’s what holds up so many Synapse releases).

Hopefully the film elements for all of these titles are intact.

The best two of the series, in my opinion. The same screenwriter penned both (and directed III).

Personally, I would rank them like this:

1. Hello Mary Lou: Prom Night II 1987 (2.5 Flawed but Worthy)
2. Prom Night 1980 (2.0 Fair)
3. Prom Night III: The Last Kiss 1990 (1.5 Barely Sufficient)
4. Prom Night IV: Deliver Us from Evil 1991 (1.0 Poor)

I know a lot of people love the third one, and honestly, I can't really say why I don't, since I adore II and it's got the same writer, but it just does not work for me. I think it plays it too straight up goofy, compared to II, which never feels as much like an outright comedy, despite the wacky elements.

I also don't mind IV at all. It's much more of a straightforward slasher, so arguably less interesting, but not a terrible one.

The main guy in the third one is just so likable. He's got kind of a Paul Rudd thing going on. Which is weird because he starred in a sitcom with Paul Rudd in the 90s. And I still can't decide which Mary Lou I prefer. I know that's sacrilege but they're both so good.

I recently watched 3 for the first time and remember it being so different but enjoyable. I think each one has some charm and I cannot wait for them to come out!! I hope they aren’t $66.66 each thought!! But I don’t think I would pick up the big boxes individually but maybe for 2 that one is GREAT!
