I guess it depends.

Definition of swashbuckler
1: a swaggering or daring soldier or adventurer
2: a novel or drama dealing with a swashbuckler

If you go by the definition any number of films could qualify. Indiana Jones, Jack Sparrow, even Star Lord.

If you mean literally wearing a sword not so many. I'd still include the Pirates of the Caribbean movies. And Cutthroat Island.

The Scarlet Pimpernel. The 1934 version, with Leslie Howard, is a good one.

Even more specifically than that:

Swashbuckling, masked heroes.

Added some Italian movies which were successful at the time.

I think requiring a mask really limits the genre. Cutthroat Island and the Pirates movies are definitely swashbucklers. What about The Phantom?

Well, he's the king of all Pulp heroes.

Phantom belongs to the same world of Indiana Jones and the Rocketeer.

Richard Lester's The Three Musketeers and The Four Musketeers (1974 - should be viewed together as one film).
The Adventures of Robin Hood (1938 - Errol Flynn)
The Story of Robin Hood (1953 - Walt Disney)
Dr Syn, Alias the Scarecrow (1963 - Walt Disney)

The Mark of Zorro (Tyrone Power) can't be topped

Jesus Christ, this was a kind of masked hero created in 1915. Astonishing.
Good pick!

What about metaphorical masks? Perhaps Captain Jack Sparrow drinks in order to mask the pain of his difficult relationship with his father?

LMAO, who knows. Maybe it's just an act! He doesn't drink and talks normally, he's normal but nobody knows. It's just a disguise...
