My high school chemistry teacher forced our class to watch Silkwood back in the late 1980s, and I ended up loving the film. I'll definitely be purchasing this Blu-ray.

Thrilled to see this come available. Never seen it, but will be blind buying based on its reputation and pedigree.

I was *this* close to picking up the DVD from Amazon.co.uk. I am THRILLED this is coming to BD -- it's criminal that this isn't available in the US in any form except the inflated prices of the OOP DVD.

Great film, with a trio of terrific performances led by Streep's. Hard to revisit, though. Quite devastating. Day 1 nonetheless.

This movie could turn you around. One of her best performances and she's immersed in the role. Cher is excellent as well. If you pass on it, you'll really be missing an excellent film.

Most of her performances are OSCAR bait and she takes everything far too seriously. She is extremely pretentous as a person. Her uppity speeches are so cringeworthy that even Bill Burr mocks her fairly often. Aside from that, I just don't find her or most of her movies to be interesting. I've taken a lot of heat for that over the years and so I know that I'm in the minority.

I do admit that I haven't seen this fim. It has a great cast and the plot and everything seems good, but I just don't know if I want any Streep movies outside of The Deer Hunter and Kramer vs. Kramer.

I see. Considering most of her roles are in dramatic movies... how exactly should she take them? Not seriously?

Oh. Okay. But this is a movie we're talking about. Do you know her personally or something?

I should tell you, there are no "uppity awards speeches" in Silkwood. That's not what this movie is about. (And a mocking by Bill Burr?? BURN!! ...But who is Bill Burr?)

Hmm. But what about....

Right. So The Deer Hunter and Kramer vs. Kramer are interesting to you. But the REST are probably shit. Got it. Just wanted to be clear.

So do you have any opinions of other movies you haven't seen that you'd like to share here? I'm sure we'd all love to hear them.

Well! I have good news for you. A "great cast" and a plot that "seems good" are usually like, pretty compelling reasons to see a movie.

I say go see Silkwood. Give it a shot. The great cast and good plot might hold your interest and make up for uppity, pretentious Meryl Streep giving an Oscar-bait performance that got her nominated for an Oscar.

But hey, what do I know? I only saw the movie.

All kidding aside, how dependable are these Kino announcements? I don't know their track record for early announcements like these. Just wondering if I should sell my DVD now or hold on to it a little longer. It just says "coming this summer."

Well, she could have played some roles that varied a bit more. That would have helped.

Well, she uses her celebrity status to reveal herself all the time. I feel that I've heard enough to reach the conclusions that I have reached.

It kind of helps that she isn't in Kramer vs. Kramer all that much.

But it might surprise you to learn that I have seen more than two movies with her in them. She rarely has left an overly positive impression on me. That's part of what leaves me skeptical of her movies... I mostly hear about how many little statues she has and little about her movies. It makes it hard to believe that I'm missing out on a whole lot. When people mention De Niro they will often talk about his movies along with his performances. With Streep the hype is usually about trophies and performances.

I know, many see her as this great actress, but I see an actress that is mostly void of charisma that is also mostly plays ultra serious and dull characters. I combine my experiences with the lack of hype for her actual films and it makes me skeptical.

I sincerely apologize if this is not what you want to hear.

Relax. I was kidding. You are entitled to not be a fan of Meryl Streep. I thought some of your conclusions were odd but I was mainly teasing.

I just don't know why people post about movies they don't care about, or don't want to see. Like, okay. Thanks.

actually it is one of the movies that has Streep in it along with Cher, but the male cast is a powerhouse, Russel was on a tear of great roles, Fred Ward, Craig T Nelson, David Strathairn, Brue McGill are all great. looking forward to this release
