United Kingdom Red Dwarf XII - November 20, 2017

Didn't see an official thread for this one yet - looking forward to this!

https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Red-D...lu-ray/164277/

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B076F56C8R

Pre-ordered this for import from the UK for the original framerate and non-interlaced.

I quickly learned to avoid the framerate-converted and often-interlaced US BBC releases.

Now I only hope that the encoding is more like X and less like XI.

XI was badly compressed with too much macroblocking and compression artifacts, not even using the available space on the disc.

Day 1. I've been watching this show since I was 10. It's not as good as it was but it still delivers some big laughs and interesting ideas every now and again and I always think it looks pretty great from a production standpoint, despite the budget constraints.

Siliconia is probably the best and most expensive looking episode of Red Dwarf ever made. Can't wait to see that in HD on Blu-Ray (don't have Dave HD unfortunately).

I've loved Red Dwarf for 20 years and while I knew the Dave era shows would never be as good as the originals I've been so disappointed with series 12 so far.

My biggest gripe is how over the top the acting is now and that the characters seem more like caricatures of themselves.

Episode 3 of series 12 was possibly the worst episode of RD I've ever seen.

I've not seen Episode 3 yet, but the first 2 didn't exactly inspire me, so that's not good news!

Ordered this. This would have to be the best comedy show I’ve ever seen. Looks like XII won’t have a steel book this time.

I think I smiled somewhere in Episode 3 but overall not loving it. Is it me or is Craig Charles losing his accent since he had his teeth done?

Since I'm not in the UK (and I don't have any TV subscriptions right now, so I didn't bother to find out if this is playing anywhere else other than Dave), this is a blind buy for me.

I'm with you guys. Been watching it since I was around 10 as well, starting with PBS marathons. Always watched it with my younger brother - we both found it hilarious.

It doesn't get better than classic Red Dwarf - chicken soup machine! I enjoyed X well enough, but other than checking out the technical specs and PQ of the XI UK Blu-ray, I haven't actually watched XI - been waiting to do a marathon with my brother, but we've both been too insanely busy to make it happen. Maybe once this is released, we'll have an XI and XII marathon.

There isn't a series 9. Back to Earth is set after series 9, and series 9 was the best one apparently.

I even like Series 7 and 8, both of which get some hate (fairly on many points), but all of the Dave stuff is worse than those IMO.

Back to Earth was a huge let down after waiting 10 years for a new series but 10 and 11 did have the odd few episodes which were pretty good even if they weren't great as a whole.

Series 12 has just been way off the mark for me so far though. Hopefully there'll be some improvement in the final 3 episodes!

Sad thing is I'll still pick this up on BD and DVD for completionist sake!

I only like Series 1-6, beyond that it's so patchy.

But I'll be getting this eventually...

I enjoyed the last 2 episodes, Mechocracy and M-Corp, so series 12 has at least redeemed itself a little bit.

Have to agree, the first three were meh but the last two have been really good.

Episode 6, Skipper, was also very good!

So for me series 12 was definitely 50/50, last 3 episodes were much better than the first 3.

The series on a whole did rely a little too much on fan service, with references to the original series, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't love those parts.

Just pre-ordered both the Blu-Ray and the DVD (Only continue to buy the DVDs to complete the set, despite the fact I'll never watch them).

EDIT: On a rewatch, I enjoyed the first 3 episodes a little more than I initially did too...

Skipper is like a 30th anniversary special a year early. Like they wanted to do one now incase they don’t get one commissioned for 2018.
