Default Ever worry UV or Vudu, Flixster, etc. will start charging fees or shutdown??

I've been giving some serious thought into selling off my Blu-ray collection and going all digital with UV and Vudu. It would save soooo much physical space for starters, no more getting up to change discs (very minor inconvenience), and more benefits to going digital. I just can't help but worry about the future of streaming, basically it's service providers and will they start charging fees or even if they will stick around or not. I like havin the physical discs (and collectible sets, etc.) but I have come to the realization that it is taking up some serious space now. I've been planning out our media room for all of our Blu-ray, DVD and CDs and am having a hard time dedicating that much room to "store" them when I could get them all (or almost all of them) on digital form that takes up no physical space whatsoever.

I guess I'm just worried that after I sell our discs off and go all digital, UV and/or Vudu will go under or start charging fees for services. Another issue is they don't have 7.1 audio on Vudu and the prices they want for the 3D movies on streaming is hard to take as well.

Anybody else on the fence about going all digital?

Yes, hence my collection of 9 movies lol. I'm all for the process though, I'm kind of sick of having all of this stuff around. It sucks when you move too, believe me.

Nope because if Vudu or UV ever go under I'll still have all my movies to watch.

If UV got shut down, we would still have our movies in our Vudu library, even if their UV status was removed, but I don't see UV shutting down.

Vudu, I don't see it shutting down, and it's a big hit. Imagine all of the lawsuits they would have from people losing all their movies and the money they spent towards those movies. It wouldn't be pretty.

I don't think that is anything you have to worry about. At least I'm not.

I don't see Vudu shutting down either. It is probably the most used streaming sites/apps. Walmart I'm sure it pretty happy that they bought it.

I'm not all that worried. I also would not complain about an annual fee to keep all of my collection nice, neat and accessible everywhere I go.

True, depending on how much of an annual fee that is. But I do love how easy and clutter free digital is.

That's crazy. Why would you want to pay a fee when you already pay money to buy movies? Assuming you buy movies on Vudu or buy Blu-rays and redeem codes - not counting just buying codes from random people here. I would not want to pay a fee, being as I spend well over $50 bucks a month buying movies that do not have digital codes, and those are having to be bought at their high prices.

I would be more concerned about commercials. For a small monthly fee there would be no ads.

Didn't say I wanted to pay a fee, just that a reasonable fee wouldn't bother me. Having my movies and TV shows accessible, sortable, available everywhere I go, with no need to mess with downloading makes it really, really convenient. I did some downloading for a while before UV started. That was a time consuming mess and was not 5% as good as what UV gives me thru Vudu. However, I'm not expecting any fees in the near future.

I don't see how that would even go over well with the majority of the users. Most use Vudu for their digital copies and spent nearly $20 a month on one movie. Why would anyone pay a fee to use a service when you could easily spend over $100 a month on buying movies? It's crazy idea just to think of! This is Vudu, not FarmVille.

I still download, but only movies that Vudu doesn't offer. Most of them are not on other digital services either, a few are on Amazon or iTunes, but still not Vudu. Once it's added to Vudu, I buy and delete it from my computer.

Ads are another issue! If I'm buying a season, I don't want these damn ads either. I can understand having ads during a season that is currently airing, but once it ends, remove the ads for customers who bought the seasons. Scream Queens is one in question. It's telling you to watch Season 1 and a certain time, even though it's been over and Season 2 is about to start. I do know some studios sends over transfers removing the ads once the season ends, so this alone tells me the ads have nothing to do with Vudu, it's all on the studios.

Fox bookends their content with ads at iTunes as well. It's pathetic. I don't even bother buying Fox shows anymore. Congrats, Fox. (It doesn't help that very few Fox TV shows are UV.)

The piracy warnings at the beginning of more streaming movies is also pathetic. Stop telling me. I bought the movie, I'm watching it. You know who doesn't have to sit through piracy warnings? Pirates. Stop hounding your paying customers.

AMEN! I've always thought the piracy warnings were useless. If someone wants to rip and share it, they will with or without that stupid warning. If anything, it should be at the end of the film... just useless crap when you pay for something.

I will never give over complete control to 1's and 0's that can vanish without a trace. I'll always keep my physical media even though I enjoy the convenience of digital.

I don't trust any service or media with DRM for archival/longevity. All the stuff I have on iTunes/UV/Vudu are just included digital copies from retail Blu-ray or $1 Vudu disc to digital transfers. I'm pretty sure there's verbiage in their terms and conditions to the effect that content can be pulled any time if the content provider decides to stop licensing it or something.

That said, I hate having to get up to change discs, too. That's why I backup my purchased Blu-rays to PC and watch via Plex Home Theater (or various other Plex clients). Alas, it's ~30 full quality movie-only rips per 1TB/930GiB. Thankfully, my BD collection is quite small (less than 200 movies).

People seem to forget, it's all Digital now, so whether you Stream from a Server or Disc the 1's and 0's are here to stay. UV is not going anywhere, and only going to get bigger. I don't buy any Movie now unless it has UV, Physical Media is on the way out. UHD Discs are expensive, and when Movies go to 8K and 16K I'm sure they won't put them on Discs.

What people should be concerned with now are their ISP, and it better be a FTTP Provider. Fiber GigaBit Speeds are going to be needed to Stream Movies in Full Resolution. So I see the Future where these Movies are loaded on to Servers for access to Cinemas and Home Theaters. Don't worry about Streaming going anywhere, but how you will access that Server.

Neither commercials nor monthly fees are in any way appropriate for services where you pay fees for individual titles. We are not talking about subscription services here!

A few codes only work on Flixster, though they will port via UV over to Vudu. That's why it's a good idea to also have a Flixster account.

Every code I have used that is Flixster only was a Warner code, and was also an older code slip. NOTE that codes do not usually expire like the code slip says, most are still valid well after the "expiration" date (I have redeemed codes that "expired" 4 years ago).
