United Kingdom Doctor Who: The Complete Ninth Series

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Doctor-Who-T...A3P5ROKL5A1OLE
http://www.zavvi.com/blu-ray/doctor-.../11218522.html
http://www.bbcshop.com/doctor-who/do...invt/bbcbd0327 - CHEAPEST!

Looks like it will include last years Christmas special ("Last Christmas") and also this years Christmas Special ("The Husbands of River Song"). Looks like a decent amount of extras too.

The extras sound surprisingly thorough! Will still wait for this to drop in price as I don't usually rewatch a series until before the new episodes (if the rumours are true about an early 2017 start for series 10 are true then there's certainly no rush) but I look forward to getting this. Series 9 is in my top three of the new series (along with 5 and 4).

Sure somewhere will be doing it for £30-40 on release day and BBCShop seem to do a 10% discount code every other week.

Just discovered BBC Shop actually does have it for £38.99. Sounds fine to me!

BBC shop has had exclusives for the last couple of series, I wonder if they'll do anything this time? It doesn't look good for next year if they're including this year's Christmas Special. If he can't make a series every year because he's too busy with Sherlock or whatever, Moffat should return to writing and the series be placed in the hands of someone competent.

I think we'd have gotten it in here anyway, regardless of when the next series may start - the Chrstmas special has always been included in the next boxset to be released after it's aired so this fits the usual pattern - it's just a bonus that the boxset being released after Christmas means we get it included in here. For Moffat's series the Christmas special always feels like it belongs to the series preceding it rather than the one following it anyway - especially here before get a fresh start with a new companion - so it's worked out pretty well.

Yeah, I think you're right. Since they started airing the whole season in the autumn without any mid-season breaks the Christmas special now feels like it should be included at the end of the preceding series rather than at the start of the next.

I think they realise this which is why we are getting last years and this years Christmas special in the series 9 set to catch up. Starting with the series 10 set they'll probably include all 12 episodes plus the 2016 Special.

I was worried they weren't going to release a complete series. It seems like a good set and really glad they've bundled in two Christmas specials too.

I'll wait like I did with Series 8 to drop in price. I saw most of it on TV.

Didn't like most of Series 9 but for that price I think I give it a second chance.

Although the design of the box set is lazy so you may as well go for the steelbook option.

Lazy? It's perfectly fine, in line with all of the other series boxset artworks (and I love the image they've used, it fits the Doctor and Clara's relationship and attitude this series).

You "may as well go for the steelbook option" would apply if it was the same price but, lovely as the steelbook is, if rather save the £14 difference.

Does anyone know if this set will be region-free? I'm in Canada and have a Region A player and our set here is priced at $80+ on Amazon Canada as opposed to the UK set at 35 pounds on Amazon UK which comes to a lot less in Canadian dollars than on Amazon Canada. Series 8 UK set was region-free so I'm hoping this one will be as well...

It's just a promo picture that was created and released online before series 9 even aired. At least most of the other box sets have bothered to create new artwork for the cover.

Who cares when it was released? How does that affect the quality? It's the main promo image for the series, it's like having the main poster design for a film on the cover for the blu-ray. It fits.

Besides, I'd take a carefully composed, tonally thought-out well done single image like this over the bland 'Doctor and Rose/Doctor and Master standing back-to-back' of series 2 and 3 on DVD or the even more bland generic floating heads of series 7. For all your talk of creating new artwork, series 8 used a Capaldi image that was taken from a Sunday newspaper magazine.

Using something because it's a good choice isn't lazy, just as something being new doesn't instantly make it better or more exciting.

All they did is just take the promo picture and put it on the box. A two year old can do that. When compared to this:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Doctor-Who-C...ries+7+box+set

or this:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Doctor-Who-T...+of+a+timelord

it's surprisingly amateurish for a mainstream release.
