The closest answer I can give you, it that when Flixster shut down operations, Vudu took over the UV of several (all?) the Flixster-only UV titles (such as Adventure Time, Regular Show, Venture Bros season 5, others)
I always felt better having four UV services (Vudu, Flixster, CinemaNow, FandangoNow) that seemed to guarantee ownership across the broadest possible assortment of venues. And, of course, CN and Flixster have ceased, so in part, that remains true (my collection remains intact) Now with Movies Anywhere, and only partial participation of studios, you have to worry whether a movie is UV or MA (i.e. will port to other services). So, I actively avoid buying items that are NOT UV or MA. I do own a handful of items that I only own in Vudu (3 or 4), or only own in FN (2), as none are UV and/or MA, and so do not port across services. So it falls to the other services to be on board with cross-sharing. Thus the idea behind UV and MA. Thus also the danger, if the backers of MA decide to destroy the previous system (UV), therefore destroying people's collections. |
