Daddy's Home 2 is one unneccesary holiday-themed comedy too many after Bad Moms 2, and Orient Express has been badly mismarketed as an action movie(?!), and whodunnits are rarely big moneymakers.

Fitting that we have a holiday mom movie and a holiday dad movie in release.

1. THOR: RAGNAROK - 55.235 MILLION (-55%)
2. DADDY'S HOME 2 - 21.6 MILLION (New)
3. MURDER ON THE ORIENT EXPRESS - 16.36 MILLION (New)
4. A BAD MOMS CHRISTMAS - 10.7 MILLION (-36%)
5. JIGSAW - 2.8 MILLION (-57%)
6. BOO 2! A MADEA HALLOWEEN - 2.088 MILLION (-54%)
7. GEOSTORM - 1.8 MILLION (-43%)
8. HAPPY DEATH DAY - 1.376 MILLION (-49%)
9. BLADE RUNNER 2049 - 1.369 MILLION (-41%)
10. THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE - 1.059 MILLION (-52%)

I could see Lady Bird cracking the top 10 with over 1 Million. Wouldn't be that difficult considering after #5 the numbers get really, really low.

I'm really, really torn on Thor: Ragnarok. On the one hand, you have Thor, you have Cate playing Hela and looking totally badass, and some other cool elements. OTOH, though, I've never been a big fan of Hulk (though I really like Ruffalo as Banner). And it sounds, at least from some reviews I've seen here, to be a bit too quippy for my tastes. I will probably wait for HBO, whatever for this one.

If I do go to the theater this weekend, or early next week, I'll see Murder on the Orient Express (what a great cast) and Bad Moms Christmas. Those two look very good to me. And I was a huge fan of the first Bad Moms movie.

As to the box itself, I fear that Daddy will come Home to the #2 spot.

I see Thor, Daddy’s Home 2 and Murder on the Orient Express making up the top three in that order. I’ve seen Thor already, and loved it, but I also want to see those other two. They look like a solid time at the movies. Lithgow looks hilarious in DH2 and the cast in MotOE looks great.

Great Thursday numbers for the openers but some of that was definitely due to many having off work today.

Gave my money to Bad Moms 2 and Orient Express today.

Moms was decent but not as funny as the first one, and Orient Express was a well made, super boring movie with one of the lamest endings I have ever seen. Such a let down for that cast.
