Default What's DVD forum opinion?

First, what is their legal form? Is this a corporation or an association?
Sony, Samsung, Warner, Disney, Toshiba, LG, Microsoft are in it, so it could be neutral and yet they chose HD DVD over Blu-ray ...
So why was there a war if they all agreed on one format?
And does the Warner decision change something in their opinion? Can their opinion even change?

I believe blu-ray members were excluded from voting anything related to HD DVD

And we care what the DVD group thinks because????

DVD is old technology, Blu-ray is entirely new technology. Therefore, the DVD group has nothing to say about it.

If I recall correctly, the members that were BDA refrained from voting in HD DVD decisions.I remember an article that mentioned Disney and Sony, and them refraining from a vote on HD DVD just this past year.

Sorta.

The BDA members who are on the CE side of things abstain from votes on the DVD Forum.

Disney typically does not. They were added to the Forum specifically to address the issue that cropped up becasue of the BDA members would traditionally abstain, thus resulting in not enough votes for anything to happen.

Disney traditionally follows the majority on their votes though, not really having much vested interest at the Forum.

The DVD Forum adopted HD-DVD as the official "successor" to DVD by a vote of 9-6 if I remember correctly (it's been a few years now). Any guess who those 6 were?

Of course, my guess is that the will re-cast that vote sometime soon. You don't actually need the DVD Forum's official "blessing"... it's just a marketing ploy. Obviously it didn't work out for HD-DVD.

The DVD Forum is pretty much the same as the BDA if I'm not mistaken. 10 years from now we might be having the same argument about why the BDA matters for the next generation format. Of course they'll probably be pushing for Ultra Blu-ray to keep royalties and branding intact.

BD-only companies abstain from voting on HD DVD related issues to avoid conflict of interest issues.
