Default Disc Rot or? Troy Ultimate Collectors Set

I recently bought Troy Ultimate Collectors edition (Comes with art book, 2 disc directors cut, special boxing, etc) Anyway...

At the 53:00 mark on disc one it freezes my 4k Blu Ray player and skips to about 1 hour 3min mark or so. Is this most likely a case of disc Rot since there are no scratches - dings - or scuffs on the disc? Thanks!

There would be no way for anyone on the internet to make that determination definitely for you. It could be a number of things, including a player issue, a scratch you’re not seeing, who knows?

First check to see if the disc has the same problem in another player. If the you get the same or similar error in multiple players, the disc is bad. What has likely happened is the two layers inside your DVD are starting to physically separate, causing the read errors around the midpoint of the movie where the layer change occurs. Similar issues affect many Warner Bros. DVDs from this period.

If you do a Google image search for disc rot, you'll see what actual disc rot looks like where holes of data are missing on a disc.

Hey thanks - yes I tried it in another player and in this case the player doesn't recognize it (Sony BD player) the one that plays it for almost an hour is a Panasonic - so yeah bad disc for sure.

Warner discs from 2005 to 2008 were notorious for rot. I recently had to get rid of the first two seasons of Two and a Half Men because of that - half the discs refused to play!

It seemed to really hit their HD DVDs though. The only one I have that actually works is The Matrix Revolutions - finding working Warner HD DVDs is rarer than finding hen's teeth, between the hours of 3:55 and 4 PM, on the 4th of July, right after being stampeded by a herd of baby elephants.

Yup, this is a common issue with Warner DVDs.

Warner and HBO discs from those years are ****ed, super high fail rate, worse than LaserDiscs easily. My Entourage Season 3 Part 1 and Part 2 sets are all dead, 100% fail rate is just crazy. Some other sets I have only certain episodes will play on the discs that will load. Tales From the Crypt sets can have it bad too. Can't even rip these bad discs I've tried.

I have a few that do work... what I do is usually skip chapters.

I'm glad i Know HBO discs can do it too - I was actually thinking of getting the original true blood seasons. Maybe not now.

Those ought to be safe - the first season was put out in 2009, and like I said earlier, the rot typically occurs on discs from 2005-2008.

New Line and 20th Century Fox discs have been known to go bad too - I had a rotted copy of The Number 23, same with Notes on a Scandal (my first copy of Flyboys was also a rotter)

Is there a list of Fox titles that are on the hit list?
