It's Father's Day, The Godfather, De Niro & Pacino @Tribeca Film Festival 2022

My two kids, home from college and working/interning this summer, gave their Dad a surprise for Father's Day, a night out on the town for dinner and tickets to the Tribeca Film Festival screening of the 50th Anniversary restoration of The Godfather and a pre-screening talk with Al Pacino. The icing on the cake was the intro by TFF co-founder Robert De Niro, who noted he played Pacino's father in the sequel, and made a personal request of Al to appear at the TFF:

"'I auditioned for The Godfather along with every other actor in New York. And Al of course got the role of Michael. I guess they thought I was too young and too good looking,' De Niro said. 'Ironically, I did play his father in [The Godfather] Part II. When I asked him to come to the festival this year I said, 'It’s Fathers Day. You’ve got to show some respect.'"

Pacino was his usual effusive self, and a few of his comments, including the above quote, appear in the Deadline article.

The talk and screening of the definitive version of the film in front of a packed house of thousands, the restored Loew's 175th Street Theatre (now the United Palace) and one of the five Loew's 'Wonder Theaters,' ranks up with my most treasured movie-going experiences. The beauty of the recent restoration is even more apparent on the big screen. It was simply spectacular. Thanks kids!
