Just inherited a "somewhat working" Sony STR-DA50ES - Blu-ray Forum

It was my uncle's. My best guess on the date of production is 1998. It has that godawful monstrosity of a "remote" which Sony calls "The Commander".

It powers up fine, all displays work, but there's no audio outputting & it's coming up with the "FAN PROTECTOR" message. Upon a quick Google search, it seems this was common for this model.

Is this something I can tackle myself? I'm somewhat versed in electronic repair (automotive wise, anyway). Even though these receivers are only going for a hundred bucks on eBay these days, the thing is built like a tank and will make for a good standby unit (or a simple 2 channel setup in my garage) after I get the new audio format receiver installed sometime in the next month or two.

Bump. First time on here in a while & still have this receiver collecting dust in my closet. I'd like to get it working so I can use it as a garage unit.

The cost of repairing will be more than just getting another one of the same unit. Just junk it and get another one.
