Maybe it's because I've only had my OLED for a month now and it's still new to me, but I feel like I'm constantly distracted by the quality when watching a 4k HDR movie. I'll just be sitting there thinking 'wow this looks so good!' (not paying attention to what's actually happening), and then the scene will change and I'll think 'wow, now THIS looks so good!'.
Here's hoping I'm not alone (crazy) on this. ![]() |

I don't quite do that but I have been super OCD over my electronics and tv since the switch to 4K. I am always second guessing myself on my purchases, etc. I keep going back and forth between physical discs and digital copies. Between Vudu and Apple, etc. It's driving my wife nuts lol.

LOL, no I don't get distracted to that point but I do dribble over a nice fabric texture or fine facial hair. What I do find is that in some movies just shows too much detail to show you the fake part of the movie like sets, make up, bad CGIs or super imposed images which sometimes kill the illusion.

Yep, i do this. But its what i love most about movies so doesnt bug me one bit. I still remember watching my first dvd, getting a dlp, upgrading to bd, and now my 4k oled and each time im drawn in by detail and image quality the most. Especially when watching my most loved movies, its like giving them a whole new life of newfound enjoyment of them with every new format and tech.

I've been there a few times too. I also find myself constantly hitting pause and adjusting the brightness/contrast/white balance etc. by a couple points and then resuming it to see if it actually changed at all.

I find myself sitting up in my seat a lot and really watching the details, the scenery and the great PQ. Kind of like the visual equivalent of stopping and smelling the roses. I think it's a very good thing.

4K does show the weakness in a bunch CGI. When the resolution is low, or the scene is dark and rainy (to hide the crappy cgi), the studio can get away with it. When the resolution is high, things look faker than they would.
They don't want to spend the $ to redo the low-res FX, so we get up-converted crap. |

Had some friends come stay with us due to their area of Savannah was under a weather threat earlier this year. I let them pick out which 4K movie they wanted to watch and it was fun watching them react in such a positive way. And then we watched a second one....and then a third. He later told me the first thing he did after returning home was to start the process of upgrading everything to the 4K level, as it had been the best movie "experience" they had ever experienced. Made my day hearing that.

Probably all of us at least do that sometimes when something's new. I know I watched plenty of subpar movies during the earlier days of hd dvd/blu just for the novelty of HD. And I'll probably do the same with uhd when I have the proper setup (have a small collection but no 4k display yet).

If anything I'm able to appreciate movies I used to think sucked (stuff like Fast & Furious series or Transformers) and I find even more to appreciate in movies I already love.
For a while I did have a really hard time deciding whether I should stream from Vudu for Dolby Vision or watch from disc for Atmos (since I couldn't do both) but now that I've got my Oppo it's all physical for me and I can just enjoy watching every movie that comes out since I can't stop buying these dang things. |
