You are the first to mention it as far as I know. I've never heard of it until now. Here's the webpage: https://www.magnavox.com/mx/blu-ray-...sc-player.html

Looks like a rebranded Philips BDP5502.

The Internet tells me that Philips own or part own or whatever the Magnavox brand so yeah, it being a rebadged philips isn't a huge shock. It's great that cheapy players like this are starting to filter down into the marketplace though, 4K must be going great guns to prompt them to get a supermarket special out there.

Hopefully it's a good indication. But I'd imagine it has a lot to do with retailers wanting to upsell customers players, even when they're stuck on BDs or DVDs.

They can throw in a "HDMI 2.0" cable whilst they're at it!

Right, but it's still a great sign that the hardware has gotten so cheap so quickly. Perhaps it should've been that cheap to begin with, but we're there now anyway.

I really must get me one of those cables though. Here's me using old "1.4" HDMI leads that I've had for almost a decade and I've had zero problems with 4K playback. Must get a gold plated one!!

I've seen it and I bet it's just another cheap plastic junk that will break down in a couple of months, my bad experience with Funai (Magnavox, Emerson, etc.) products taught me that I'll never buy anything from them again.
If you want a good 4K player on a $300 budget or less, Sony UBP-X800 or Samsung UBD-M8500 would be better for you. LG UP870/UP875 is also a decent one if you don't need smart features on your 4K player.

Actually, Magnavox as a brand is now owned by Funai since mid-to-late 1990s.

I think it looks suspiciously similar to the Sanyo someone posted a couple of days ago. If anyone sees a photo of the rear and there is an exhaust fan then... As said good to see more players even if they aren't fantastic.

Funai owns the Sanyo, Magnavox and Emerson brands.
