It's an okay movie. I enjoy parts of it a lot. I don't think the TNG cast had their TWOK -- not even First Contact.

Hoping Picard season 3 is a fantastic send-off.

I recently watched this again and liked it a lot better than from what I remembered.

Looks like Paramount is finishing what they started.

They’ve really been on a catalog tear.

If Batman & Robin can get a 4K release, why the hell not?

This is the only TNG film that feels like a movie version of the series for me. Frakes was onto something, sad he left to direct kids' movies.

I don't care what anyone says about Insurrection, it is still my personal favorite in the TNG movie series.

And if anyone else thinks otherwise, sue me...

Completely agree. It's a fantastic TNG episode with great character beats and a very worthwhile story. I loved it. I think 6 is the best Trek movie but Insurrection is my favorite.

Thunderbirds killed his film career. He says as much in some interviews.

He was handed a poisoned chalice there anyway. Pretty much everything that made the original a classic was lost in translation, despite some good casting (Sophia Miles was spot on casting IMO.)

Yeah, unless it was Frakes' passion project and he helped write the thing it shouldn't have been held against him.

Thunderbirds was a head scratcher for me, I had no idea why a studio would throw so much money on bringing that to the big screen, heck even a low budget kids TV show would have tanked all the same, it had almost no mass appeal in the US afaik (I barely was familiar with it as a kid) and seemed like a sketchy idea even when I saw previews at the time, it was almost a bad project for anyone to take. Was it part of that era where people were trying to mine British IPs? I remember that Avengers movie tanking too. It was a shame because I love Clockstoppers and definitely have a soft spot for that and both his TNG films, though I do remember Insurrection was also a disappointment financially at the time. I suppose even if he had just stuck with Trek he was destined to direct the trainwreck known as Nemesis and still washout of studio directing, at least he wasn't the guy responsible for killing the franchise at the time (though it still hurts to see him in that awful Enterprise finale).

I've always had a soft spot for Insurrection. It's the first one I saw in theaters, so that's bonus points, but otherwise it's the film that most felt like it was a big screen adaptation of TNG. The characters feel pretty true to form, the story (as written by TNG writer/exec producer and DS9/VOY co-creator Michael Piller) feels very much like a TNG story, and the Jerry Goldsmith soundtrack is beautiful. It's very much an easygoing watch for me, compared to the heavier tonally TNG films — it's like throwing in Voyage Home in the TOS movies.

Yes, it's a flawed movie. The humor is a bit much at times, and I know the description of it feeling like a TNG episode is used to criticize it as no better than a middle-of-the-road two-parter. And obviously by this point Patrick Stewart had way too much say in the movie to its detriment, as you can see more of in Nemesis and Picard. (Highly recommend reading Michael Piller's unpublished "Fade In" book about the writing/making of INS if you can find a way.)

That said, I'll watch it over Generations and Nemesis any day, and will gladly have it on 4K, ̶w̶a̶r̶t̶s̶ ̶ gorches and all.
