Default A Futile and Stupid Gesture (2018)

* As usual, tried a search, came up empty. If there is a thread for this, please merge.

This premiered on Netflix today and I gotta say it's pretty hilarious. It has exactly my same kind of sense of humor. Will Forte plays the lead and his style is perfect for it. It does lose a little steam in the end, when it gets (slightly) serious, but overall was very enjoyable. 4/5
Directed by The State's David Wain, and featuring several other members in supporting roles/cameos.

Random thought:

Will Forte and Domnhall Gleeson (as Doug Kenney and Henry Beard) totally reminded me of Trey Parker and Matt Stone - their jokes, their banter, even a little in their looks.

I have hardly no experience or knowledge of National Lampoon, but I absolutely adored this movie. Talk about one Hell of an ensemble cast. Absolutely insane how many people were in this. Extremely, extremely funny.

I saw it last night and enjoyed. I knew nothing of National Lampoon except they were associated with Animal House.

For this movie I enjoyed the humor and was interesting to learn about the SNL guys being with Lampoon before. I'm assuming this is true because its in the movie

I think the movie would've been better without Will Forte. I have nothing against the guy, but he's 47 and was playing a 21 to 33 year old. I'm sure they could've found someone closer to Dom Gleeson's age (33-35 if I'm not mistaken). I know the age thing got played for a joke at one point but still. I guess Will really wanted to play this role.

I couldnt disagree more - Will Forte was one of the primary reasons this movie was as funny as it was, and the age thing never distracted me.

Had high expectations for this and was really disappointed. As a teen in the 70s, the national lampoon mags were comic gold. I would have preferred a doco on the people involved, instead of actors recreating scenes. The ending was really dumb. Not sure if that was based on actual facts, but it really was a stupid way to end an already awful movie.

There's a documentary about the Lampoon called Drunk Stoned Brilliant Dead that I thought was really good.

because i grew up in the UK i knew nothing of National Lampoon except for the movies. So i was shocked at the twist ending, it really threw me for six.

I really love it but then i like these true life docu-movies
