Default Mommie Dearest - March 3, 2021

So it looks like Shock will be releasing Mommie Dearest on BD in Australia on March 3! This will be the first-ever release anywhere in the world. It's probably one of the most sought-after cult titles. I expect Paramount will possibly release it in North America this year, with 2021 being the 40th anniversary and all.

Who's excited to see sparkling dirt-free floors and $300 dresses in HD?

A classic for all the unintended reasons. The book is horrifying. The movie is a hoot.

Shock is releasing it through Cinema Cult; the artwork above is not final and I hear there will be some bonus material included.

Audio commentary by Faye Dunaway and Rutanya Alda.

Kidding, but one can dream.

Unhappy

To be honest I'm not expecting much from this release.

Refer to Shock's release of Ordinary People.

The clips on YouTube look decent, so I'm quite happy with that. Not keeping my hopes up as far as special features are concerned though.

And I think the cover looks nice too (I'm glad it doesn't have that awful "Cinema Cult" border and whatnot all over it.

Special features have been confirmed via Cinema Cult's Facebook post.

"Included are three featurettes, 'The Revival of Joan', 'Life with Joan' and 'Joan Lives On' - amounting to over 40 minutes of bonus material, complete with movie clips, archival materials and interviews."

Looks like they are porting over all of the extras from the special edition minus the terrific John Waters commentary. That's too bad

I just wish Shock would follow other Australian labels (like Imprint) and UK and German labels, with releasing reversible covers without the damned HUGE ratings. It's larger than the title itself FFS, I get that the ratings have to be there (like Imprint, UK and German) but please have a sleeve without these hideous intrusive ratings.

Oh... yuck.

I see they have updated the cover art to include the hideous "Cinema Cult" insignia. Why is Shock so insistent on making their catalogue title covers look as hideous as possible?

They may as well have scrawled the constitution on it while they were at it.

Even though Mommie Dearest received bad reviews, but I thought it was Faye Dunaway's best performances. Her make-up artist, hair stylist and wardrobe had transformed her into a striking resemblance to the real Joan Crawford.

Fun Fact: Joan Crawford's real costume designer came out of retirement to do all the costumes Faye wears in this film.

Sidenote, does anyone know what region this is?

WOW....

this EPITMOSES how friggin CRAP this nation really is - when there is a dearth of 'talent' or care to give at minimum a cover that is not as ######## as this.

Arrow... Indicator.... Criterion.... VS..... all out to grab new artwork or posters...... but then there's this.

Congrats SHOCK on priding yourself on trash.

Congrats SHOCK on priding yourself on trash.

Many shock covers are trash but this one imo is one of the better ones. Some of the worst I have seen by shock are these.
