This action by Sam's Club doesn't really affect me since their prices were never really that competitive.

Also doesn't really affect me since I never really bought movies there because of the pricing as you mentioned. Still I was not happy to see that since it's always better to have more options and I thing the whole trend of cutting physical media availability is disturbing. On the other hand, I have to think, though I buy a ton of movies regularly, the fact that I always wait to buy them at "deal" prices (as we would count deals here) and never at full price or even at a "regular" sale prices, I probably haven't been helping the situation since even though their moving some inventory, their profit is probably not much. For example, for all the $ I spend on the sales at BN and also at BB (a lot), I wonder how much $ they actually make off my purchases since I only buy stuff when I can get them at very significant discounts. |

Several people have seen that too. Some discussion took place in the Sam's Club thread in the Movie and TV Deals section, starting near the bottom of the page, though this is probably a better place for it: https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...s+club&page=11
I've often found 1-2 titles to pick up during my (usually) once a month visits. I'm disappointed to lose that, especially as it was a bit of a treat not knowing what sort of more obscure release I might find. Quote:

Never understood how a company that's supposed to be built on the concept of value, could have such ridiculously non-competitive prices, even compared to their own parent company, Walmart. Oh well, it didn't affect us much. I think we bought maybe 3 BDs at Sam's Club in all the years they carried them. It was considerably more disappointing to see them raise the price of their fresh-squeezed OJ. Man that stuff is good, but it was borderline too high to begin with. Increasing the price was just too ridiculous to keep supporting them. But, hey, if we actually shopped there for the value, we wouldn't shop there. Rather we keep coming back for select deli and other items we can't find anywhere else, as well as over-the-counter medications. But, at this point it's more habit than anything, so I'm not sure how much longer that'll last.

Yeah, we were just there today and they had two endcap-like displays with new releases. Well, releases that were new a week or three ago - a lot of copies of Wonder Woman still, but the latest Pirates hadn't made it there yet. It makes sense, being that it's new releases that have the best shot of an impulse purchase. Most people turn to the internet for catalog titles, since retailers don't offer but a fraction of the selection an online vendor can carry.
As usual, the prices weren't any better than any other store selling them. Which I imagine the people in charge of pricing at Sam's Club probably considers a hot buy. Afterall, just 10 feet away they were selling pumpkins - same size, same condition, even the same cardboard displays - for a little over $2 more than they're selling them for at their parent company Walmart right across the street. |

63 Sam's Clubs across the country abruptly closed or will be closing soon. Employees were not notified of this in advance. Some learned by going to work and finding it locked with a notice on the door. WTF?
Here's the list of stores: [Show spoiler]

Holy crap! My store is one of them, but I didn't renew when it expired in October. Now I'm really glad I didn't... I rarely went there. Once they stopped having movie deals, I found it pointless to be a member...

Wow! What I find amusing is that Costco is doing the opposite. They have opened a bunch of new locations in my area, in the last few years... None directly close to the Sam's Club that closed, but still...

Well, the two that just closed are directly next to Walmarts. So I'm assuming thats taking alot of their business. They are also closing the Target that is directly across from the Sams/Walmart next month.

At least Walmart is the same company, so they're not technically losing money to a competitor. But yeah, I thought it was dumb that many of the Sams Clubs stores were opened directly next to Walmarts... My Sams Club that closed, however, is not directly near any other store, although there is a Target 3/4 of a mile down the road... That Sams was always crowded whenever I went there, so I don't get it...
