United Kingdom Supergirl (1984) coming 3rd August 2020 (UK)

Just spotted on HMV.

https://store.hmv.com/store/film-tv/.../supergirl-(1)

Can't find it anywhere else, HMV exclusive perhaps?
It states 2 discs so maybe both cuts of the film.
Wondering if this will be exact same as the Warner Archive edition released in the U.S.

Pretty cheap at only £10.99.

Back of the US case for comparison. So we are not getting the second cut it seems, unless the HMV listing for 2 discs is correct but has been omitted from the back of the case.

Includes both cuts.
From the product description on ebay.

Synopsis: Ilya and Alexander Salkind continue to bring the lore and legend behind the World’s Greatest Super Hero to the big screen in this rare Director’s Cut on a bonus DVD. follow-up to the beloved Christopher Reeve Superman films. Helen Slater (in her screen debut) stars as the sensational Supergirl! Though Superman grew up believing himself to be the Last Son of Krypton, part of his home planet survived: Argo City, home of his uncle, Zor-El (Simon Ward), and Zor-El’s wife, Alura (Mia Farrow). Saved by the wizardry of Zaltar (Peter O’Toole) and the Omegahedron, their daughter Kara comes of age as a Kryptonian when a disaster whisks the Omegahedron to her cousin’s adoptive planet, Earth. Dispatched to rescue it from the clutches of the evil sorceress Selena (Faye Dunaway), Kara must tackle a steep learning curve so that she can pass the test as both mild-mannered schoolgirl Linda Lee and Supergirl! This special edition of Supergirl presents the film’s International Cut, remastered in High Definition for Blu-ray.™
Director: Jeannot Szwarc, David Odell
Cast: Helen Slater, Faye Dunaway, Peter O'Toole

That description seems to be copied and pasted from the synopsis on the back of the case, the inclusion of the info about the director’s cut is also strangely in the middle of the sentence. The US back artwork shows the info about the director’s cut under the synopsis and in the bonus features listing, meanwhile the UK release has it missing from both places.

Looks like they’ll probably just be including the existing UK DVD instead of the new one. Boooooo.

Probably explains why it’s not a PC release.

Oh well, no brainer to stick with the WAC then.

Great news if you're after the BD, but as I'd forgotten about the DVD, I'll pick up the US BD next time it's on offer.

But hopefully it's confirmed that we get the DVD, but it would need a new PAL master.

I'm intrigued. The WAC disc is pretty damn nice. I may pick this up as well.

I've still got my Anchor Bay LE DVD as well

I actually prefer the director's cut, why can't they put THAT on blu ray??

Because they couldn't locate good enough elements and didn't have the budget to rebuild it from scratch.

Re-rated 12, I see. I wonder if that is because Lucy Lane uses the "r" word or because
[Show spoiler]Selena essentially tries to date rape Ethan!

Yeah, I would take any listing you see on ebay with a pinch of salt. Very rarely is it accurate, unless it's writen by the seller and even then...

They could possibly have left the DVD as NTSC, doubt anyone would have playback issues that was buying a Blu-ray.

I'm not sure if that makes it any more clear, because HMV list it as 2 discs and the Entertainment Store could just be using the back cover as confirmation. I think until it's released we won't know for sure.

For 8 quid though I can't complain, especially as the director's cut is still just DVD sadly.
