Blu-ray Ninja

![]() ![]() This documentary brings Hollywood's premier composers together to give viewers a privileged look inside the musical challenges and creative secrecy of the world's most widely known music genre: the film score. Debuting director Matt Schrader brings us interviews by John Williams, Hans Zimmer, Danny Elfman, James Cameron, Randy Newman, Junkie XL, Howard Shore, Alexandre Desplat, Steve Jablonsky, Thomas Newman, Patrick Doyle, John Powell, Moby, Steven Spielberg, Garry Marshall, Jerry Goldsmith, John Debney, James Horner, Trent Reznor, Harry Gregson-Williams, Brian Tyler, Atticus Ross, Elliot Goldenthal, ... and more. US : June 16, 2017 --------------------------------------------------- Well, for someone who fell in love with film music as a kid by movies like 'Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom' in the mid-80s, I went totally nuts when I discovered you could actually buy that music on CD in the mid-90s. 'Jurassic Park' was the one. I don't watch documentaries in theatres very often, but this one might be different. ![]() ![]() |

Just read about this in the new EW.
I am a film score enthusiast, my all time favorite is Interstellar (the use of the Organ is sheer genius) Im actually going to see Hans Zimmer in concert in a month, i can not wait! Paid a premium to have good seats, but for my all time favorite composer, it is worth every penny! May see if any specialty theaters are playing this movie around me. |

If if is mostly praise for Zimmer I will be skipping this. His "music" sounds like he fell asleep face down on his keyboard for a few hours and some one recorded it.

Unfortunately, Williams is not interviewed. A single interview (with YouTube quality) is used for the entirety of his segment. It's the joint interview with Spielberg. |

Just watched this (via hoopla/Chromecast, but will now be buying the blu-ray).
Man, I loved this movie. I got goosebumps multiple times watching this. It's partially a behind-the-scenes look at the scoring of film, but it's more a celebration of film music. My only complaint is that it is only an hour and a half long. I could have watched a three hour cut. Hell, I could watch a 10-part Ken Burns documentary on the subject. 5/5 Last edited by cinemaphile; 02-02-2018 at 05:45 AM. |
