Default Bug in corner of certain Blu-Ray discs?

I have yet to encounter this, but I have heard it described by a few friends. Basically there is a bug that appears in the corner of the screen as you are viewing a movie (for example: Ratatouille) which shows up to alert you that there is some special extra nonsense about the scene you are currently watching. This sounds ultra-mega annoying and would actually prevent me from purchasing a movie. A friend of mine has the movie mentioned above and a Samsung 1400 Blu-Ray player, and there isn't any way that he can find to turn this annoying bug off permanently. I also hear that HD DVD discs do this even more.

So my questions are these:

-Is there a way to turn that nonsense off on the Samsung 1400?

-Will this same BS happen if I play the same movie in the PS3 (which is what I use)?

-Why would the studios dare do this? Do they simply want to annoy their customers? I do not consider this a feature, but actually a deal-breaker.

Thanks.

I have not noticed this while watching that movie on my PS3 any of the dozen or so times I've watched it. I believe this is the "Cine_explore" feature (I've heard of something like pop up video from VH1, but I don't use these things myself) of this title, but it is completely optional. As to why your friend couldn't turn it off is unkown to me....most likely user error or a FW issue that should be fixed by now if that's the case.

I run it on a PS3 as well, and have no idea what you are talking about.

Can't help you, sorry.

I have never, ever heard of this before. If it's an icon to let you know that exra content is available, you should be able to disable it . . . it should default to disabled, though.

Basically a "bug" is graphical icon that appears onscreen which is not part of the original programming. A good example would be the network logos you in in the corner of TV broadcasts.

I must admit I haven't dug fully into the Ratatouille disc, but what you're saying sounds like a branching feature that automatically or allows you to manually bring up supplemental material, e.g., commentary, featurettes, storyboards, at appropriate points throughout the movie. As long as you don't activate the feature (Cars has a feature like that called Cine-Explore), it should be fine.

Rats I saw on Ratatouille (played on PS3), but no "bugs." Hope this helps

I'm about to throw this in my PS3 and I'll activate the Cine-explore feature... I'll repost in a bit with whether or not this "bug" is that said feature.

It would appear to be the Cine-explore, but you have to select it manually to watch the movie it. Also, there seems to be audio commentary with this feature on as well as little pop ups with the option to watch a behind the scenes snippet related to the scene you're watching.

Hopefully this helped.... back to GoodFellas!

If you're talking about the angle icon that appears during Ratatouille then yes can be turn off from the BDP menu options. The Samsuck 1200 is notorious for this.

Hmmm, that could possibly be it. He lives in Texas and myself in Colorado, so I can't check it out first hand.

To be more specific he needs to do go to the Menu Screen>Display Setup>Screen Message>Select off

The problem should go away. However tell him that whenever he installs new firmware that he will need to go in and change this again as all of his BDP setting will go back to factory settings.
