Default Avengers Infinity War UHD digital?

I see tge 4K Blu-ray version from Walmart and Best Buy says digital on the cover but when I go into the Itunes store, it only shows HD and not UHD too for the format. Is there no 4K digital version? That’s pretty odd. I’ve seen, insofar as the movies I’ve looked at that there is always a 4K digital version on ITunes but sometimes not on UHD disc- like Oblivion or Edge of Tomorrow. Could there be a 4K disc with no 4K digital version on Itunes? I think I may have read there’s a Vudu 4K version but no 4K Itunes....

Disney movies arent available in 4k on iTunes unfortunately. Movies Anywhere tied to a Vudu account for the UHD version as far as I know

So if you buy the 4K blu-ray, redeem digital in MA, you can watch in 4K through Vudu? But only HD in iTunes?

Just making sure I understand this correctly.

Also, if Disney ever joins 2018 and puts 4K on iTunes, would this version be upgraded to 4K since it was a 4K code?

Disney did join 2018, you can get 4K Disney titles at Vudu, FandangoNow, Microsoft Movies & TV, and Amazon Video.

Apple doesn’t want to add a premium price tag to 4K movies, Disney does. That premium is $5 or higher.

Disney is Disney. Id pay it just to get the titles in 4k. I know it leaves other studios the opportunity to ask for more, but they don't have the same bargaining power.

Previously I'd have wagered Disney would just hold out until 4K stopped demanding much of a premium, so they get the best of both worlds with people buying their 4K content on MA compatible services but get Apple's 4K strategy driving up ownership in general. Now they're getting Fox as well though, that puts them in an even stronger bargaining position. The sad thing is Fox have been great about pushing out 4K content and really making sure that titles get updated with their old extras, can't say the same for Disney, so it is worrying that the studio that's least into it is taking control of the studio most into it.

Bargaining power?

Apple was able to sign a deal with Warner, Sony, Universal, Paramount, Lionsgate, STX, A24, and Fox to provide 4K at the same price as HD and extend free upgrades to 4K when available.

These studios then shifted 4K pricing for other digital stores to be the same as HD. They weren’t able to provide free upgrades but now 4K doesn’t carry a premium for these studios.

The only holdout is Disney and Disney has learned multiple times that their desire for money does not mean they win everytime. Its not a matter of who will fold in this fight, its a matter of when Disney will stop being stubborn. Mayhaps if Disney’s streaming platform underwhelms in returns, they’ll understand Apple’s stance.

Yes, thinking about this an important bit of perspective I was missing is that it's not just Disney that won't give Apple 4K content for the same price, it's Apple that won't let Disney list 4K content at a higher price. Apple won't let their deal fall apart by giving one studio the chance to make more money, causing everyone to start wanting to do the same. I guess Apple and Disney are both notoriously stubborn companies!

I am holding out hope that they will come to some sort of deal. That is why I always redeem all my HD Disney movies through iTunes just in case.
