Hello, I would like to buy thid tv but I just find out that after updated with dolby vision with firmware, this tv can only handle dv through netflix or apple tv, and not with an oppo 203 connected via hdmi. Is this true?

not quite that simple
Sony, currently uses a 'special unique low-latency Dolby Vision profile" Sony, does not currently support the common 'original Dolby Vision full profile' Sony, determining that neither their X1 or X1 Extreme processor(s) were capable of processing the 'original Dolby Vision full-profile', consequently Sony worked with Dolby developing a 'Sony unique profile' :: the consequence is that Sony displays currently, and possibility exists that manufacturers might not support this unique to Sony low-latency profile (it could go either way :: restricted product support or all manufacturers having to adapt; currently it's an unknown) regarding Netflix, i am not knowledgeable as to whether it works or not (it may or may not be an issue :: i recommend caution) regarding Apple TV 4K, it either already does or will soon provide support for the low-latency profile in an update, concurrently supporting both of the Dolby Vision profiles (original full profile and more recent low-latency profile) regarding the Oppo player specifically, i believe that at sometime in the future they intend to do a firmware update to enable their player to work with Sony displays that are designated to support Dolby Vision it's my understanding that for any device to work with Sony/Dolby Vision, it would have to support the 'low-latency profile' (important to know with certainty) what is the Sony centric low-latency profile? :: products that support the original full profile work as expected (universal), nothing special involved :: the rather recent development of the low-latency profile changes things considerably, as the display (using an proprietary Dolby Vision video chipset) no longer does the primary/complete Dolby Vision processing, rather display/player work together with the display communicating with the player which does the video processing :: further, 'original full-profile' products (display/devices/players) have the Dolby Certified Dolby Chipset (video) which essentially does the processing as designed/required :: in this context, it was 'once simple' now complicated be careful and thoughtful :: depending on your interpretation, this is more complicated than it should be and might have consequences Last edited by jibucha; 03-10-2018 at 12:36 AM. |

About prices? Here we pay twice the price of what things costs in USA and in most cases three times more ( quick example, a blu ray movie sold for 10 dls in USA cost here 30 - 35 dls ). So I earn closely same money as you but things cost me three times more the effort to get. |
