Default All Major Studio Titles To Go Bi-Weekly At All Retailers This Year

I'm not sure where to put this topic so a mod may want to move this elsewhere .Films At Home Has a new video up today revealing that retailers are doing what Target has started. All retailers are moving to a bi-weekly release date for major studio releases on physical media.

The news about the retail schedule starts at 5:16.The first part is specifically about Best Buy getting out of physical media but the other retailers continuing with Walmart putting a major focus on it.

Regarding the new bi-weekly release schedule for retailers according to his info.

1)This shift starts everywhere February 2024.So starts the week after next.

2)It's the major tent pole releases that are going bi-weekly.Target started this shift back in the fall. Everyone else starts next month. This is industry wide. So major studio titles will release every two weeks instead of every week. You'll get major studio releases on one Tuesday(he used Barbie and Oppenheimer as an example),nothing is released the next Tuesday from any major studio, then more studio releases the Tuesday after.

3)This is being done purely for business purposes. To help keep physical media sales alive. To help with keeping warehouse, distribution and shipping costs down. To keep costs from going up more for customers and to keep from running out of stock within a week. He uses what happened with the Oppenheimer physical release as an example. They don't have enough infrastructure to produce enough stock on things right now. Bi-weekly will mean less problems with stock issues.

3)This bi-weekly schedule is only for major studio titles. New theatrical releases for example. The major studio releases. Boutique labels like Arrow, Vinegar Syndrome, Shout , etc will still follow their own schedules. This is purely for the major studio level

4)This is for the major Brick and Mortar retail releases of the big theatrical titles. Catalog titles that are online exclusives could still come out in between the two week schedule. Boutique things could still come out in between the two week schedule.

Really worth watching the whole video. It's about 13 minutes.
