"Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone remains one of the weaker films in the Potter franchise, freighted with such a burden of prologue and backstory that it barely has a time for an independent plot. But the film has been given an effective makeover on UHD, because the creative team did it right: a new 4K scan from negative, an effective but respectful HDR treatment and a BD-100 to ensure sufficient bandwidth. The result is a gorgeous image that breathes new life into the second chapter of Harry's journey, accompanied by an equally memorable soundtrack. The only negative is the failure to remaster the standard Blu-ray, thereby abandoning those who haven't yet upgraded their equipment to a wan and outdated image from the early days of the format. With these new Potter discs joining first-class catalog 4K titles like Blade Runner and Unforgiven, Warner is giving fans a meaningful incentive to invest in home video's latest format. Highly recommended."

Starship Troopers looks better, but different. No argument on Groundhog Day though. The UHD destroys the Blu-ray.

Well they were both new masters. Did I miss something? Isn’t this list supposed to be about new masters? 98% of UHD’s will feature some sort of upgrade over the BD counterpart.

I suspect that this list will become very large. Most uhd have been better than their HD blu-ray versions.

My suggestion for biggest improvement, Groundhog Day.

This is not meant as a snarky comment.....wouldn't the list be the opposite of this thread, "4K UHD's that look worst than their counter part"?

https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...ighlight=worse

As another member stated, this list will be the vast majority, where focusing on the very small list of titles that look "worst" than the UHD's. I apologize if I am missing the benefit or purpose of the thread.

Sorry, it's not clear for me how to interpret the list. For example, if the UHD has better PQ than a former BD release, does that mean it makes the list? Because I take that's the case with most releases. And the word 'better' is always subject to discussion (think color grading for example).

I would suggest that you make definitions clear or divide them in to different categories, because now you have so many possibilities when a movie makes the list:
-the UHD has better PQ than the old BD
-the new BD has better PQ than the old BD
-the UHD and the new BD have better PQ than the old BD
-the UHD has better AQ than the old BD
-the new BD has better AQ than the old BD
-the UHD and the new BD have better AQ than the old BD
-the UHD has better PQ and AQ than the old BD
-the new BD has better PQ and AQ than the old BD
-the UHD and the new BD have better PQ and AQ than the old BD
-the UHD has additional footage which the old BD lacks
-the new BD has additional footage which the old BD lacks
-the UHD and the new BD have additional footage which the old BD lacks
etc...

I should have been more clear. This list is primarily for new masters that exist only in the UHD set in some capacity. For, example the new masters for the first two Mummy films are only on the UHD discs. Another exapmle is that Unforgiven received a new master for the both the UHD and BD, but there was no indivudual BD release. Another one is where the Interestallar UHD includes an additional IMAX shot not on the BD. Am I making sense folks?

Great thread. Blu is already such a solid product in most cases that I often talk myself out of uhd unless it's a catalog favorite or something with a much better scan/encode than the blu. Titles like The Mummy that have a much older format war era scan can have massive potential for improvement. Studios can really redeem themselves for all the earlier blu blunders that had heavy dnr, a badly dated transfer, or were released on a cramped BD-25 with outdated codecs.
