Default It is the PS3 that did it.

The total PS3 units sold has just passed 9 million this week. With the fast increase of standalone BD player sales, the total Blu-ray players sold is actually around 10 million at this time. The format war has basically ended before the Warner's announcement. BD players should easily pass 20 millions before this year's end. This is the hard fact that Toshiba and HD DVD fans should have known it but are reluctant to admit it openly. They repeatedly avoid mentioning the PS3 when they are talking about the format war statistics is exactly a reflection of their mind. It is a sad truth they have to swallow.

It was collective effort I didn't buy a PS3 until recently but have had 2 blu-ray players since august.

But yes the PS3 played a huge factor in the wars end.

Only fools would disregard a multi-media device such as Playstation 3 in light of it's predecessor being in over 120 million homes.

Clearly, the fools are being revealed.

Just like with DVD and the PS2, the PS3 with the Blu-ray was the trojan horse was finally the straw the broke the camel's back.

Best piece of Home media electronics i've ever owned.
Playing COD4 last night online wirelessly from my lounge room before watching a Blu Ray.

Simply brilliant

I have a 60GB PS3 and a 80GB PS3... in my life, I have never owned two of the same console. This is my first time owning two of the same console.

However, I must say that the investment was worth every penny!

Totally agree. Sony was BRILLIANT by incorporating an HD player in their system. Here is a GREAT quote by someone over at AVS. I cannot stop laughing about this announcement.

Quote:
"So long as we all keep pretending that the PS3 doesn't really count as a blu-ray player and as long as we don't count disc sales." Pass the bong water, Toshiba, M$ needs a swig.

yup Sony sacrificed that poor console. Just imagine Sony asked Playstation brand to win 2 wars at the same time, the console war and the DVD format war.

Poor little Playstation

I agree the PS 3 helped in the war but also much props has to goto Disney and Fox.

Disney sales with Bd has been strong all of 2007 and then Fox came back strong with all there great encodes also you can't forget New Line with the first 7.1 audio with Hairspary.

I think the BDA is a strong group who knows where they want to be and how to get there .

Ya pretty much. That and the fact that the crap box lacked a built in drive, and rented out hd movies as downloads. The downloads reduced demand for the add on. Where as us Ps3 owners have no downloads and a built in Blu-ray drive. This not only makes Blu-ray adoption easier but a must since Ps3 lacks full movie downloads. Hd Dvd was selling more standalone players but this will now change because consumers will pick the format with the 4 to 2 studio edge.

Now that's the plot is being dug and the tombstone prepared for HD DUD and that the ENTIRE WORLD knows it, the PS3 will sell better then it EVER did before and will not only catch up to Microsoft but it will beat the RROD POS XBOX 360 before 2008 is out (Worldwide). It will take until the end of 2009 for the PS3 to beat the XBOX in the U.S. however...

Even $50 would be significant.

Even if you don't play games at all or absolutely hate gaming, still PS3 is the best home entertainment and multimedia device for your living room out there. Problem is there are many out there who are not aware of this.

Let us help PS3's cause by making more and more people aware of this amazing device PS3 that is.
