United Kingdom [FUNi Entertainment | Manga UK] Dragon Ball Z: Movie Collection (Blu-ray/DVD Combo)

Admittedly, the Double Feature DBZ Movie Blu-rays by FUNimation aren't anywhere near as good as Dragon Box: The Movies but they are doable, at best. Credit where credit is due, some movies look better than others because of random luck (automated remastering -- similar to the Orange Bricks).

The artwork of the Manga UK DBZ Movie Blu-rays look identical to the FUNimation BDs and that's pretty awesome as the covers were one of its best aspects.

The movies are available for pre-order at Zavvi for £17.99 each, or slightly cheaper via TopCashBack (45p).

Personally speaking, I've pre-ordered Collection 6 which includes Z12 - Fusion Reborn and Z13 - Wrath of the Dragon, two of my all-time favorite Z movies. And hopefully Z13 will feature the clean Japanese audio that FUNi originally bundled with the DBZ Z13 Single (buuuut it probably won't, would be cool though).

FUNimation released 'Rock the Dragon' for Ocean Dub fans so they own the rights to release Ocean Dub content as such, I wish they'd re-release Movies Z1-3 with a new transfer (preferably a new, proper remaster).

I've just finished watching the original Dragon Ball anime for the first time (never saw it as a child).

Are all these films canon to the entire anime run (DB, DBZ, DBS), or is it just "Dead Zone" and "The World's Strongest" that I need to watch?

I watched DBZ years ago on Cartoon Network but I've never seen the DBZ movies. I've heard a lot of conflicting opinions on whether they are canon or not.

I have the DB yellow brick DVDs, but I haven't started getting the DBZ orange brick DVDs yet.

Never seen GT either.

The movies aren't essential viewing (and I personally find most of 'em, dull as hell); Most of the original 13 'Z' films can't be placed inside the continuity of the series even remotely seamlessly... but then the anime had characters from 'Dead Zone' and 'Tree Of Might' show up in its "filler" arcs, so...

The two TV specials are canon to the anime series, fleshing out the lore/backstories, and the Trunks special actually adapts part of the manga. Word of warning though, the blu-ray release (as well as the 'Orange Brick' DVDs) are centre-cropped to 16:9 and were not framed with that in mind.

'Battle Of Gods' and 'Resurrection "F"' are both sequels to DBZ that were later adapted into the first 27 episodes of DBS (with substantial changes) and both versions pretend that GT never happened.

So really, "The History Of Trunks" and "Bardock: The Father of Goku" are the only ones I need to get for anime continuity with DBZ then?

Thanks.

I did have "Battle Of Gods" and "Resurrection F" on blu-ray, but traded them in as I knew they were being redone in DBS, and I figured I'd get DBS on blu-ray eventually as I don't have access to whatever channel is showing it in the UK.

I was going to get the DBZ orange bricks, but after doing some looking around, I found out about the problems with the orange bricks, and will therefore be eventually importing the 1-9 DBZ blu-ray sets from the US instead.

Screw Kai. I want the filler!

On second thought, you'd probably be better off watching 'Dead Zone' at least, as the Garlic Jr arc is a direct sequel to it, even with inconsistencies like Krillin meeting Gohan for the first time twice. If you just wanna watch the characters beat the crap outta each other, with the thinnest of plots that blatantly rip-off the main series, then you'll probably have a good time with the movies.

I don't think it ever did air on TV over here. The whole series is streaming on Crunchyroll in Japanese, though (in 480p with ads, or 1080p ad-free with a subscrition).
