On this website it says Tromeo and Juliet is coming out March 30 (this coming Tuesday), but Amazon has it listed for April 27. Does anyone know who is correct?

Yeah but if you look at eBay there are people already selling it. Hmm, I checked around online and couldn't find anything about a delay. I guess I'll email AMZ and see what they have to say.

On http://www.dvdworldusa.com they claim to have Tested "Tromeo & Juliet" and deemed to "Region A locked".. That sounds strange to me since every DVD from Troma was Codefree and also their first BD Title was codefree.. What's up with that?

DVD Talk put up their review of the Class of Nuke 'Em high today, so I'm going to guess that Troma will be releasing this one at the same time. Either way I'll find out later this afternoon when I run down to pick up my copy of Django.

Just caught that... checked with Silver Platters as well where I'll be picking up Django and they're not listing either movie at all. I'd like both Tromeo and Class of Nuke 'Em High, so I guess waiting is really the only option I have here. Hopefully there's something in the works for Terror Firmer as well, since that's my favorite Troma flick ever.

To add to this, I went down to Silver Platters to pick up my copy of Django last night, and they had Class of Nuke 'Em High. Tromeo and Juliet failed to come with the rest of the shipment, but they said they expected it either today or tomorrow so I had them put my name on it. I'll bounce back on here again to confirm if this ends up being the case, and if that does indeed occur, color me stoked.
Edit: 6/24/2010 - Picked up Tromeo and Juliet with Darkman the day before yesterday. Talk about a delayed release. I had totally forgotten that I even reserved the title until the store called me up Tuesday to let me know it had come in. Will be watching this some time tomorrow or Saturday and posting my thoughts. Last edited by aeric_7734; 06-24-2010 at 05:45 PM. |

What's the original aspect ratio for this film? It's the only Troma film on bluray still using a full screen transfer.

Most Troma films were shot on with a 1:33:1 aspect ratio. I don't know if Tromeo was framed so you could crop it to be 1:85:1 for its theatrical release.

Tromeo And Juliet was shot 1.33:1. Almost all of Troma's films were shot in intentional 1.33:1. If you compare the widescreen and fullscreen versions of The Toxic Avenger, you will notice that the widescreen version is badly cropped on the top and bottom from the fullscreen image. Class Of Nuke 'Em High, on the other hand, was shot open matte due to the fact that it was a big budget movie for them. I think the same can be said about Troma's War, but I am not sure. After the bubble burst for them, they went completely back to shooting films in 1.33:1. As of late, the only Troma films shot in actual 1.78/1.85:1 are Poultrygeist and Return To Nuke 'Em High.

Troma Entertainment has seemingly carved out a schlocky niche in the no man’s land that exists between soft-core skin flicks and low budget exploitation shockers. Cultivating a certain style and attitude that gleefully embraces Z grade shenanigans, Troma head honcho Lloyd Kaufman is shameless in his presentations of gratuitous nudity and splattery gore. 1996’s Romeo and Juliet spoof TROMEO AND JULIET is co-written, produced and directed by Kaufman, but is also notable for being the cinematic debut of future GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY helmer James Gunn, who is credited as a cowriter and associate director.
Essentially a loose reimagining of Shakespeare’s tale of star crossed lovers set in modern day New York City, the story follows Tromeo Que (Will Keenan) and Juliet Capulet (Jane Jensen), young members of warring clans of pornographers. The rest of the cast is filled out with relative unknowns and Troma regulars like Debbie Rochon, though Lemmy from Motorhead is our narrator and Sean Gunn is memorable as the gonzo Sammy Capulet. This being a Troma film, there’s lots of incest, questionable sex scenes, not exactly convincing gore, less than polished performances, and truckloads of enthusiasm. This intentionally politically incorrect, transgressive, taboo busting flick knows exactly what it is and is pretty successful at being narratively coherent and entertaining. The soundtrack features prominently in the film and is made of some mildly famous acts as well as Motorhead, Superchunk, and Sublime. It’s veritably dripping in ‘90s aesthetic, which is always a positive in my book. The makeup and gore effects are solid enough, considering the $350,000 budget, with my favorite fx sequence involving a monstrous animatronic dick. There’s also a pretty spectacular car crash that would be impressive in any film, nevermind one with such a tiny budget. Despite boasting some relatively graphic sex and gore, the tone remains pretty silly throughout as Kaufman’s tongue is planted firmly in cheek. Makes sure you sit through the credits as there’s plenty of goofy wordplay littered therein. For the squeamish, it should be noted there’s a closeup shot of a real nipple piercing and real footage of some sort of lizard devouring a mouse. I thoroughly enjoyed Lloyd Kaufman’s TROMEO AND JULIET. It’s a flurry of groan worthy jokes, semi clever Shakespearean spoofing, goopy gore, and tasteless sex scenes covered in an unmistakably ‘90s era aura. Recommended for fans of THE TOXIC AVENGER, BAD TASTE, and HARD TICKET TO HAWAII. |
