Default Power dvd menu problems please help

i have two real odd problems here i`m sure are my

newbie failings

Ie: Using any version Cyberlink power dvd , my problem is playing

BR and HD-DVD movies with full menus , i cant get past the

menu screen with options etc . like scene / extras / play

selection , the mouse wont access these . How do i access

these so i can start the movie or view the extras ?

i have read the manual to no avail and i quote the manual

" When you insert your DVD movie disc, after playing the warning messages, your DVD Movie Main Menu will appear in the video window. You can locate the Menu Pad by clicking on the outer arrow button on your PowerDVD Main Control Panel. The directional arrows allow you to select the options on your main DVD movie menu, and then you can click on the center button to enter your selected menu option. "

1st off there are no outer arrows .

Another problem is , with some flix ,

using same mentioned player , i cant get video on my

Sony tv when i use to play this flick , but i do on my pc

monitor ,

i have a intel 2.4 dual core , intel DG965SS main board ,

Nvidea GeForce 8800 GTSoc

2 gig DDR 2 ram

win xp pro

CoreAVC_H.264_Video_Codec_v1.5.0.0

i have all latest drivers and updates for my software and hardware

i`ve heard there are no software programs that play these discs

with menus etc..Is this true , is cyberlink a big rip off ?

Can anyone suggest some alternative software ?

Cheers

Specifically, what version of PowerDVD are you using to try and play Blu-ray?

Odd that the mouse cannot click on the options... works ok here(PowerDVD Ultra 7.3)

*HERE* if I start the movie, then click on the third from right button on PowerDVD, the popup menu appears with all the extras.

*NOTE* On some(all?) of the movies, if you pause the movie itself, that popup button greys(blues?) out and won't work.
It's like the movie has to be running for any of the deleted scenes/extras menus to work.

When you arent playing a Blu-ray Disc, it is the Capture frame button(third button from the right on the bottom row of buttons).
When you play a Blu-ray Disc, the Capture button turns into the Popup menu button...

Capture only works for "normal" DVDs, and then it just copies the frame to the clipboard. *WE* have to paste that frame to some image handler and then save it manually.

When we play Blu-ray, there is no Capture button.
PrtSc won't work either.

Now, if *WE* rip the Blu-ray to the HDD and have PowerDVD play the files from the Stream folder... Capture button is there and works! PrtSc key also works!

See?

Hi

Well i`m back at it

Things just keep getting weirder

The extras i cant play in PDVD , well as u know VLC cant play

HD or BR , but it can play the extras , but the audio track wont play

in VLC .

The subtitles work as well , but any attempt to skip ahead to another part of

disc results in a crash .

The menu button does nada , i keep clicking and hoping to no avail

What is this outer arrow button the manual speaks of ? i quote

Any further help appreciated

Cheers

Well, first off Blu-ray Discs and DVDs are different and PowerDVD treats them differently. As it should.

It's almost sounding like the program is broken or you are having some odd HDCP(maybe) issue. You might want to consider uninstalling PowerDVD and then reinstalling it.

Outer Arrow? What version is that manual for?

This is PowerDVD playing a DVD with the startup menu showing... What arrow?

Remember, DVD is not Blu-ray Disc.
Note the third button from right is now the Capture button... it is the Popup menu when we play BDs.

Now, you *CAN* Right click the video window and get a whole bunch of things to click on when a DVD or a Blu-ray Disc is playing.

As a side note, some BDs don't start with the menu - they just start.
Popup menu/Extras/Setup is your call, and here it is the third button from the right when the BD is playing.

Contact Cyberlink maybe and ask them what is up?
I am at a loss here.

PowerDVD XP?

Uhm... huh?

Try this PDF:
http://www.cyberlink.com/multi/downl....jsp?dl_id=378

EDIT: Wow! Even that PDF is kinda lacking
Run PowerDVD and click the "?" Help button - although... this is anemic too.

" PowerDVD XP? "

Well im running XP SP 2

But my bar down the side says Power dvd 7.3 next gen

Where your es says Power dvd XP

Is there a difference ?

i uninstalled PDVD and reinstalled

Trial and error has got me somewhere at least

i can get some features to play , but have no control over

any specific one via the on screen menu , with a mouse click etc

i hit j on keyboard , then right click with mouse on screen , and

hit play , then the first feature with an arrow beside it will play ,

when that ends the next feature will have an arrow beside it ,

i right click again , then that feature will play , but this only

works for the 1st 2 , i cant access them all

Also on one bluray disc , vlc will play extras with audio , but

obviously not the feature , where PDVD will play the feature

and will play some features after movie ends , but i have no way of

even seeing what these extras are via a menu .

PS i thought BR didnt have special features , or was that no menu

screen ?

Cheers again mate

From your link is where I got that image of PowerDVD XP

http://www.cyberlink.com/english/pro...i_control5.jsp

Click the 4th image down - the page you have been reading is for PowerDVD XP

You and I don't have PowerDVD XP - we have a few versions newer than XP.
The stuff described on that page you sent me to is not for PowerDVD Ultra 7.3... therefore, there is no arrow for us to see.

Go here:
http://www.cyberlink.com/multi/downl....jsp?dl_id=378

Download English version
THAT is for our PowerDVD Ultra - not PowerDVD XP like on that page you have been reading.

BTW Check your private message! Top of this forum.

AnyDVD HD will also rip the Blu-ray Discs, *I* use DVDFab Platinum:

http://www.dvdfab.com/dvd-fab-platinum.htm

~48 minutes to rip a Blu-ray here.

BTW, I had to uninstall AnyDVD HD because it was screwing with my optical drive.
I have yet to try it again to see if they fixed it...

I'm not SURE if you were having the same probs I had when I played my first BR disc... but my problem was with Pirates of the Carib. 3 -- has a skeleton in the middle of the screen, PLAY MOVIE on the left, and OPTIONS (or something) on the right.

Click Play Movie, nothing happens. After a couple seconds of fidgeting I found I had to click the menu option I wanted, then hit ENTER on the keyboard to actually select it.

Angry updating firmware

Hello everyone I am new to the blu-ray scene. My problem is that I cannot update to play newer movies. I have cyberlink 7, it is running on an alienware hanger 18 with vista premium. It will play older Blu-rays like tears of the sun, but every time I put in a newer movie like Diehard 4 it asks me to install a new update. I click the yes button and nothing happens or the app crashes. Am I doing anything wrong? Is there something I am missing?Do I need to upgrade to ultra addition to be able to install newer updates?? I am really irrated with this. Any help would be a godsend thanks.
